  • outboard 7.5 vs 9.9

Hello, I am wanting to purchase an outboard for my argo bigfoot. Now I know they have to be long shaft but what I am wondering is would I get much of a power increase with the 9.9hp compared to a 7.5?

I've never tried a 7.5 on one but suspect that you would not see much of a differance. The hull design of an Argo is not built for water speed.

RD is right they are just like a barg in the water, i have tried 2hp-9.9hp on an 8x8 and the 7.5 was the best one and the weight/size between the 7.5 and 9.9 is massive, i would not even attempt to mount a 9.9 on a 6x6 lol

What you will see is a weight difference. The 7.5 will be just as effective as the 9.9. I run the 9.9 on my Avenger and even with the long shaft when you try to really grab some gusto the long shaft will still have cavitation. This is due mainly to the wheels disturbing the water prior to its arrival at the prop. I think!! In my opinion i think the 9.9 will be a bit heavy for the bigfoot. The big thing about the outboard is...you ain't going to set any water speed records with it. My 9.9 is a 4 stroke Mariner motor, so i am assuming this is the type you are speaking of. It will propel you at a pretty good pace but it will take a little time to get up to speed.

Well I have been looking through craigslist and found a few. They are all older 2 strokes. So what does the average 7.5 and 9.9 weigh?

I think the four stroke is around 90 lbs. I am not exactly sure but you can check the outboard sites for weights on each unit. The 9.9 is easier mounted by 2 people.
