  • Tracks needed or not?

    Gentlemen,
I am in the process of buying a new Argo 8x8 which I wish to use for wildlife photography and hunting. My property has a very large marsh on it along with a stream and beaver dam. I would like to know if an Argo 8x8 will navigate beaver hay and black marsh muck without using tracks. I have asked locally but I get varying answers. I assume you chaps will know the truth and I appreciate any information you can give.
I prefer not using tracks, if possible.
    Thank you in advance,
    WB

Hi WB, welcome to the site

Not having seen your marsh, my answer is simple............NO, you don't need tracks, but like I said, I have not seen your marsh.

In my opinion, and it's only my opinion, Tracks are for snow, unless it's really a killer swamp.
The bright side is that tracks can be added at a later date if required.
I have, and probably will again run tracks in the summer, in really swampy conditions, and they can really help. BUT, learning to drive without them will help you even more. There is a learning curve to driving an Argo (as with any "skid steer" type machine), and I believe that in MOST cases tracks are not needed.

Point of interest: Tracks don't swim worth a crap

    Hope that helps a bit.

      Tracks needed or not

      Rock Doctor,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I appreciate the advice and I will go without tracks. I am getting the Special Edition 8x8 because of the different seats. I drove an older machine years ago and found it punishing at best. I am hoping the different seats along with the different steering system will prove better as I am not young any more. I am impressed at the wealth of information on this forum and overjoyed to find that tracks are not a necessity.
      Cheers,
      WB
