  • Argo body question

    All,

I'm thinking about painting my 85 8x8. I'm not a fan of the orange. From what I have read online the body is made of ABS plastic. Some sites say you can't paint ABS others say you can. Has anyone here ever done it with any succsess?

If the body is ABS, you can paint it. The Orange Crush is ABS and the paint sticks just fine. Prep is the biggest item. I sanded off all the oxidized material and then fine sanded it. Used a btm(base to metal) primer and then shot it with car paint. It was $36 a quart one stage paint. Knowing that dings and scratches will occur i can sand it and spray it again. I have all these pictures in my gallery. If it is hdpe: it is what it is. I can get you the exact numbers of the primer and the type paint if you wish.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

My buddy has a couple Orange Argo's, and is ALWAYS Harping at me " Leaves are green, the sky is blue, **** is brown, and ARGO'S ARE ORANGE"

I always did think he was a little strange :-)

PS. He does have a point about trying to find a green Argo again after leaving it parked out in the bush for a week, lol

your body is made from HDPE and paint will not stick to it. you can paint it if you like, but you will be touching it up all the time

Thanks for the quick feed back guys. HDPE is probably a better material for these bodies, so it would explain why so many of these machines have the original color. Rock; - that's a really good point - I have a hard enough time finding my keys half the time so making the old girl black or green is probably not the best idea I've ever had!
