  • New hkk chain question

I put six hours of hard riding on the argo this past weekend. Had a blast in the mountains, but when I cleaned everything I found the chain had rubbed the rhino linning off my frame. The chain has stretched a little but still not that bad. The idler chain still has the same 1/8th inch play but the middle and back chains on both sides has touched the frame(square tube that goes through the chain). Is this normal?

This is brand new chain and it stretched that far already ? Something doesn't sound right.

When chain is new it will stretch a lot. For the first few times you take it out riding you will have to tighten it and eventually it will get to where it only needs to be tightened every now and then. It doesn't sound like your chain stretched that much overall though. Perhaps it just hit the frame support enough to knock the rhino lining off?

Do I remove a link or just let the adjusters keep it tight? If it stretches the same amount again the next 6 hours as it has already then it will be running on the frame supports. I installed the correct # of links when I did the rebuild. I had to weld the frame supports because the old chain had rubbed groves in those same places.

Sorry, I am in Max world over here. I was thinking that you had manual tensioners. Ignore that last post of mine about tightening the chain. You shouldn't have to take a link though as that will wear out your sprockets. Do your tensioners appear to be working correctly?

Yeah they seem to be doing good from what I know about it, the only time they move to much is when I make a small adjustment while driving with some speed. I did a test run with floor pans out and watched the middle ones only jump up and down then. The springs on the adjusters keep the chain pulled tight but it moves all the slack to the top or bottom depending on braking. I installed all new chain adjusters even though 2 of the old ones where in good condition. BTW I'm in murphy NC this weekend tearing up the woods in your home state! Hope you don't mind me taking some mud back to Ga!
