[ QUOTE ] ' they do well on steady constant speed uses, but where the application bounces and snap loads they just fall out and go wrap around the sprokets, not quite the app for those rings '

Matt Oxender used the roll ring ,chain tensioners on his Mudd-Ox for about two years, and ran his machine VERY HARD for testing purposes to see if any thing would break. Because the roll ring had proven reliable during this period of time, Matt released the first Mudd-Ox machines for sale to the public. Matt later decided to go to another chain tensioner design. Matt never had a problem with the roll ring chain tensioners, because he always kept his lower tub clean. But, for the people who failed to keep their lower tub free of small limbs and branches, they had a problem with the roll ring chain tensioners. If a large enough branch or limb came in contact with the roll ring, it would then get dislodged. Also ,when there was enough stretch in the chain, the roll ring would expand even farther, and this would cause the roll ring to push the chain out against the lower tub, and rub against it. The roll rings also needed to be replaced after about 80 hours of use. Matt told me that the cost of the roll rings was about $91 now? These are the reasons that Matt no longer uses the roll rings.

This is a torsion spring, chain tensioner that I,m going to install on my Max IV and Hustler. I talked to Matt Oxender on the phone , and he really likes this chain tensioner too. When I received one of these chain tensioners in the mail from Monstercraftman, my initial thought was WOW! I was inpressed! The spring tension can be set by two different tension tabs that are on the adjuster. The torsion spring on this tensioner is very strong too! Once the initial chain stretch is finished , the chain tension is then automatically adjusted.

ive seen those ring tensioners before, they do well on steady constant speed uses, but where the application bounces and snap loads they just fall out and go wrap around the sprokets, not quite the app for those rings

Don't cheap out when you buy chain. If you do then be prepared to buy twice as much.

Double strand 50 is $15.00 / foot where I am.

You can't take a link out. Well you can, but the chain will be a 1/4 to 1/2" too short. That's using a half link.

You are talking about the front drive chains right ? Or the idler chains coming off the Tranny ? If it's the latter there are jack screws on the engine/tranny mounting bracket that will add tension to the idlers.

my argo has 1058 miles on it since i got it in spring and ive been noticing the front chains slowly getting slacker.
but i did just figure it would come to a point and just remove a link ... now you guys are talking remove the entire chain???
dont think i will like to replace these every 6 months... that sounds wrong
and it isnt fun to replace chains with tracks on ,;((

No tightner, if they are overly loose, you need to replace them.
