What model Argo do you have? You may not notice a big difference with just one tooth depending on the sprocket setup you currently have.

exactly what Mike said, if you look on the top of your transmission there is a letter for a code of what series trans you have

There are about three different transmission ratios it could have. There are a set of gears inside that makes the difference. It would not be easy or cheap to change them. There's a two letter code on the top of the trans case. Does it say "MU"?

The only other idea I've had is putting smaller sprockets on the countershaft coming down from the transmission chains. If you look on the second axle, it has two sizes of sprockets.. the smaller one is what I'm talking about. Your bigfoot probably has a single sprocket there, but argo makes a double sprocket on earlier models. It would be a major gear ratio change, however. I think over the years argo made even more sprocket sizes that might fit.

Another thing you could do is adjust the govenor on the briggs to about 4000-4200 rpm. And before that I'd look at the cluthes and belt that they are gearing up all the way.

i have an 04 bigfoot with an 18 horse vanguard. i was getting around 22 miles an hr. i have played with the governor a little and can get 25-27 now.(depending on the terrain). i am triing to get 30 out of the old girl. i have had bikes all my life have always changed the sprockets to get the speed-take off i wanted. so i was thinking if i went up a tooth on the drive sprocket i could achieve this. that's how i would do it on a bike any way. any thoughts? any idea where to find spockets that fit at a reasonable price?
