Hello, great site here. I've been looking for an 8 wheel argo for a few days and found a Avenger. The guy thought it was a 2001 but it seems they werent made until 2004, he is positive it says Avenger on the tag though and stated he may be wrong on the year. It has 1300 hours on it with new tires, heater, hard top, winch, motor mount. He doesnt know much more about it including the engine size, tire size, or skid plate. Wants 4000 for it. Does that seem reasonable given the number of hours on it? The engine is liquid cooled and it doesnt leak in the water. Also, do all avenger's have the front/rear axles raised a little for easier turning or did that occur in later years? Did they come with 22" tires? What was the standard engine size? thanks for your help.

First off where is you location? $4000 seems a little high. Send me the serial numbers and i can tell you what you need to know. Actually the two center tires are lower in the Avenger models. This helps in it's turning. The Avenger comes with the 25x11.5x9 rawhide III tires as a standard until 2010. The standard now on the new machines is the Argo tire which is 25x12x9.

Average use on these machines are around 50 hours a year. Note this is average. My machine is a 2006 and have 198hrs. If it was a tour guide machine or a industrial machine the hours go way up. Some take care of the machines as others do not. It is according to how well the machine was maintained. There was a Vanguard and a response made during those years. The Vanguard was a 6 wheel vehicle and was replaced by the Bigfoot. Bigfoot 6x6 Argo Amphibious All Terrain Vehicle

I should have the serial number tomorrow. It was a machine used to lay the black webbing for erosion control at construction sites. No idea how it was taken care of.

I've worked on construction sites for 20 years......I've yet to see company equipment treated kindly. Sometimes it is abused and sometimes just used hard, never like the employee actually owned it. But, there is always an exception....just check it over really well.

Like buggyman1 said, I would be very leery of it being used like it was especially with that many hours and also wonder how well it was maintained. Plus I think you are referring to an Avenger? That isn't an Avenger. It is older than that. Perhaps since it was being used as a piece of equipment, that is why the owner doesn't know that much about it but something just doesn't sound good to me. I wouldn't want you to spend $4000 for something that you will have to sink another $2000 into to get going again. Just be careful and don't buy it just because you are excited to get an eight wheeler. Other ones will come along.

2001 Avenger is what he called it, i typed it wrong. So this isnt an avenger either? The current owner purchased it at a construction site from a the original owner. Current owner used it 10 hrs or less according to him. Thanks for the help,

A 2001 Argo with a liquid cooled engine is a Conquest. I'd be careful about buying it. A 1300 hr machine that was not cared for could be a can of worms.

Yes Grizzly is right. As i stated earlier 50 hours is average use on a privately owned machine. I would give this machine a wide girth and look for another. The motor and transmission are about at the end of their life. Two high dollar items. Hope this helps.

I think you will be much better off and end up with a better machine that will give you less problems. It's hard to turn them down sometimes when you get so close to buying one though.

Ergoman - You'll find one. I found a 2000 Conquest with 190 hrs on it last October for $5000 up here in Alaska. Good luck.
