  • I made a top for my Avenger for 2 bucks !!

Okay, Okay, so it's not perfect. LOL. However it was rainy and snowy that evening and man, did this work great. Only cost me a roll of electrical tape and a 9x12 tarp I bought for 98 cents on sale.

And here I am on a bridge we found way down a power line, across 3 rivers !!

Hope this work, first time trying to post pics.

$$$ bling is nice, but I always gotta give it up big time for those who use nothing but a few basic items and a little "MacGuyver" ingenuity! Major props to you, Sir! I really love the all-natural frame! LOL. Amazing what a tarp and some tape (and/or a few bungee cords) can do to increase comfort - especially when the weather turns ugly. Sometimes you either have be creative or you're left sitting at home looking out the window just imagining all the fun that you could be having. Excellent job!!!

Necessity is the mother of invention, it worked and kept you dry and that is worth more than $2.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

That looks something like I made one day with similar conditions and I bet you had as much fun as I did when building it, except I didn't get the deluxe model like you got. That is what these things are for (GOOD TIMES). Great job man.

Ha, Ha, yeah I'm taking her out again Friday for another run with the hillbilly top. After that she's booked into the local upholstry shop to get a custom folding top made. It's getting 5 doors, front 2, center 2 for the rear passengers and the rear door. All for MUCH less than the OEM one. Will post some pics of my next ride....

Do you have the frame or are they fabricating everything? I'm curious on the cost because I got a quote on the canvas only for $700. I thought that was awfully steep. I never went anywhere else for a price. How much was OEM'S price?

You might look at Sunbrella acrylic fabric.. They use it on commercial awnings and I had a boat cover made of it.

Thats for everything, he's bending the poles and all to fit, all fasteners, etc. It will be made with Sunbrella fabric, any color I wanted, and his quote was $700. The Argo model is $1100. I went custom as I have a couple options (mudflaps, paddles, etc.) that are mounted at the back and I would have had to get him to modify the factory top anyway, just adding to the OEM price. I would shop around a bit and see if you can get a better deal, otherwise just go OEM and you can have it tommorrow instead of waiting for him to build it for the same price.

My old torn top is sunbrella. It's only a half top to boot. Do you think OEM still make that style?

ARGO still makes a half top, not sure on the price for that one, but I can guess that it would be $500 -$700 based on the fact that the full 8x8 top is $1100-ish. Might be a bit more? Check out your local dealer.

That is a heck of an upgrade from the $2 top. It looks great, and the lights are very cool.
