  • Argo Body Material

Hello, I am new to this so please forgive my lack of knowlege...
I am assuming from reading previous posts that the old ARGO bodies are made of polyethylene.
Can anyone tell me if my 1970's ARGO body is low density or High density polyethylene. The reason I am asking is that I have ordered a airless plastic welder and am going to order some plastic rods. I need to fix up some cracks.
I have read from somewhere, I now forget where, that high density poly can be repaired with low or high density poly but high density poly cannot be used to repair low density poly...
Does any of this make sense? I'll just order low desity polyethylene rods I guess.
I have looked at that G-Flex epoxy website and watched the video. It looks pretty impressive. Has anyone tried it on their AATV body? Probably easier than plastic welding, EH?

no problem, alot of the 70's argo's were actually poly lower's with fibreglass uppers, or there were also styles with headlights under the bumper/seam that had fibreglass lower and upper's, usually these 70's argo's with fibreglass uppers had the 2 stroke engines but i have seen some 2 stroke versions with poly upper and lower as well, if your Argo came with a Tejunksie or says Argo in the hood you have poly upper/lower, as for which type of poly i have no idea lol, hope this helps

      Hello, Thanks for the info.
Well the hood has ARGO letters cut out of the front of it, and the headlights are on the upper part, so yeah the upper is the same material as the lower, polethylene... no fiberglass on this one. I dont know what the original engine was in this one. It had a chaparral 432, 2 stroke in it when I got it. it's an 8x8 with a faded orange body. . .
I recently communicated with someone who sells plastic filler rod, He told me that LDPE is unlikely as it is quite flexible and not likely used for atv purposes. he suggested it's either MDPE or HDPE. I'll just need to figure out which filler rods to purchase. HMMM.

You need to use High desity polyethlene rod, I have made repairs to my argo with no problem.

Hey... Thanks for the info, I've gotten my hands on some HDPE filler rod and a cheap iron for plastic welding. However, I'll need to wait till spring time to do any patch work. It is currently -29 degrees celcius out there... BRRR! I Have tried practicing on some scraps of an old rain barrel indoors though. pretty cool...

No, you are wrong, I have a 1970s Model, all polly Argo 8x8 with a 432.2cc Chaparal, and it is the ORIGIONAL ENGINE, no doubt about it. These machines were expariments in Argo's early days. The engine fits perfect, it is origional!
