  • Speed of 73 Argo with 400cc kholer

i have bought a 73 argo with a 399cc kohler 2stroke motor. I was wondering how fast this might go?
I have recently talked to a worker at Richard Rellics and he said it will go about 30mph. I guess i just need to get it runnung and find out!

Hi Argoguy, these buggies don't go too fast,my 86 8wheeler says maaaybe 20mph and the new ones don't go much faster, even with 32 hp engines. Too many chains and tires. They are giggle buggies. As for you previous post, I don't know if your exhaust should come out there. Is there a hole cut under the lip where the top and bottom fit? If there is then it shouldn' be there.

Not true at all, an Argo with a 400 will really move.......I'd say up to 40 MPH. I have personally seen them in action and they really go. There are Attex 6 wheelers with 2 stroke 2 cylinder engines that are pushing speeds of up to 50mph. If you look around on the video thread you will find an older Argo 8x8 with a Kohler 440 2 stroke and that in the video it is running up to 35-40mph.

Hi ArgoGuy. Is your machine an Argo SS? Or were they just with CCW motors, I'm not too familiar with Argos. Just curious, as I saw a couple videos of 2-stroke Argos and they were moving along at a good clip, I just want to see what the Super Sport model is about

I have a Argo SS with the ccw 400 in it 42mph along side a chevy pickup. I also have the 440ccw for it. It needs new brake pads on it so maybe this week. and I know it's a SS the dash tag says SS438. Does anyone know how many of them were made?? I will try and post pic's of it next week. I would like to put a newer brake sys on it but the wife says keep it ornginal.

Wow,I never knew they could go that fast. Ive got a late 70's Polaris 440 in the garage that I rebuilt for someone who didn't bother picking up.Too late in the season to swap now, but maybe next summer.

Sounds like it's time for you to pick up another machine and throw that 440 in there .......you'll be sure to get an amazing thrill from going fast in an AATV!

Why is the SS faster ? Is the transmission geared taller or the the ratio after the transmission higher. Or is it just all due the faster engine ?

The 2 stroke engines rev at higher RPMs......the gearing may be taller as well, but I don't know Argos that well so I can't say for sure.

The Argo SS was built for racing all i know is the trans has High, Low. N,R and low is low. I know when it's in High flyes and don't cut the brakes. And the clutch comes in around 2500, 3000 rpm which i would like to lower some.
