I Have a set of plastic(argo) tracks for my 87 argo 8x8. I've been reading other older "track" theads and some people say than u should dechain the front wheels when using tracks due to extra stress. Is this true? Any opinions please!

i have never heard of that but sounds crazy, i would never disconnect any drive chains, and i have never had any problems, i do lube my chains before every long ride though with belray chain "wax" i find it is the absolute best for the chains, takes ten mins of your time to keep the chains happy!'99 Conquest 104hp turbocharged intercooled EFI Chevy Sprint conversion

Chain windup is the reason for removing a chain, but it's the rear chains that some guys remove, as far as I know. It's not really much of an issue with plastic tracks, so I wouldn't bother if I were you. The plastic tracks allow the tires to slip a littel easier, so you don't have as much of an issue as some guys do with the Rubber tracks.
This is where tire circumferance and pressures come into play and make a big differance.

Guys...I have another question about tracks. I have only owned our Frontier for a couple of months and have no experience with the machine. Sorry for straying from the initial question.
I've noticed that my tracks seem to hit the tub alot when riding in deeper snow. Not worried about hurting the tub but is this an indication of improperly inflated tires or is it just the fact that it happens due to the slack in the tracks. I followed the recommended tire pressures in the owner's manual. Do your tracks slap the tub riding in the snow? Packed snow is fine...mainly powder that is the problem.

I have a 97 6X6 Argo and the manual says nothing about removing chains. I have never had a problem and don't see any excessive wear from the tracks which I have on from November through March or April.

Starcraft, I get that noise sometimes, i have narrowed it down and think I know what it is. Ice builds up on the tire guides which changes the tension and adds weight. Check if your guides are covered (on the inside touching the tire) with ice. I think the ice causes the track to ride up higher on the tires making them closer to the tub and possibly causing it to bounce as well. If they are knock them with a wrench or something and try it again. I find it only happens sometimes, must be under the right conditions ( temp, snow, etc) and seems to go away when I knock them clean.....09' ARGO Avenger 750 EFI
