  • tranny mount 81 8 i/c

    hi all, i just started the tear down on my 81 i/c model and i was wondering if the tranny can come out seperate from the motor I took the chains off and four bolts under the tranny but it looks like it is mounted on a plate that the motor is mounted on is this correct? do i have to pull the motor first? thanks just tring to save some time and a dime

    yes it is seperate, there are two long bolts that go through the trans mount tabs on the bottom of it

      ok thanks i guess i just didnt pull up hard enough i will give it a shot tomorrow and one more question (i seem to be full of them) do you use a cork washer or silicon when installing new bolts that go thru the body thanks

        The big cork gasket should do the sealing

          if your gonna tear it down completly,its easier to drill out all the rivets holding upper and lower bodies together.then you can lift the whole engine/trany assembly out.theres only 2 bolt in the front holding the engine/trany mount.remove them and the jackshafts chains then out it comes.i wrapped a lifting strap around the whole assembly and removed it with chainfalls.
          hope this helps.

            We have my buddies Trany out of his Conquest right now, we just popped it out through the firewall.
