  • Synthetic oil and weight of machine

    I have an 83 argo 8x8.
First question - anyone know the weight of the machine?

Second question - is it safe to use synthetic oil in the engine (Kohler KT17) and transmission?

I always use synthetic oil in air cooled engines. They tend to run hotter than water cooled engines and the synthetic MAY hold up better

My brother & I have been running argos for over 20 years & have always used synthetic oil in the air cooled Kohler engine 5/30 & transmission, 80/90 wt amsoil. No problems. Am using synthetic oil in my 20 hp kawasaki & brother in law has used synthetic oil in his 1998 since new & still running great.

Agreed on the use of synthetics. I will be going synthetic with the first oil change in my 2011 8x8 Frontier.

As far as weight, depending on tires, engine size and accessories your Argo probably weighs in the neighborhood of 1100-1200 lbs.

Thanks guys - one more question - with synthetic, do you leave the same weight of oil in all year round or do you change for the winter?

amsoil 30 weight gives you a broad temperature range.it also doubles as 10w-30 so you can use it year round.unless your operating in real cold climates then you would want to use 5w-30.
