Looking at an argo bigfoot with super tracks

the guy selling the machine is not in much of a hurry. i have to sell my polaris 4x4 before i can buy the 6x6 i have some friends of mine looking at the 4x4. i won't be very happy if that deal doesn't go through. reading this site and watching the videos has me convinced that 6x6 is the only way to go.

i test drove the bigfoot again today with the supertracks on it this time. all i can say is HOLY S--T!!!! that was awesome. we have about 18 inches of snow on the ground and we never looked back. plowed through all of it. we went up some hills that i wouldn't try with my 4 wheeler in the summer. this thing is unstopable. i am hooked!! seth

If riding with kids, get the 8x8

I initially started with a 6x6 but quickely moved up to an 8x8 as the kids were not happy sitting in the back. If they are 5-8yrs old, then probably fine but once they grow they will not enjoy the rear seats as they are pretty harsh if you are riding logs and rocks.

In purchasing a used Argo, years old and hours can quickly be over-shadowed by poor maintenance. Check every grease nib on the argo to see if they have been recently greased. No assurance that it was maintained but there are a couple of grease nibs hard to get (under the battery tray for example) which if neglected will lead to bearing failure. While these parts are not expensive to replace, it is a labour intensive task which is not cheap unless you do it yourself.

I agree with you about the escargots. They are expensive. Man, until I buy the extra tires and wheels and spacers, if I'd add alittle to it I could buy a machine like Chapy is talking about.

That got me and some other guys talking about maybe making our own tracks. If you look at the escargot tracks, there is nothing about them that requires the maker to be Einstein or anything like that. They are pretty simple, but making the cleats or as they call them the crossers would be time consuming for a guy to do on his own. After that it's nothing but bolts and belts and so on.

I can't help it, my mind is always working on something. Seems like with some time and determination it could be done. I can tell you this much, until I have a set of tracks either bought or made, I'll be thinking about it!

That's the one I crossed backwards, I did try it forwards first but was unable to get the front of the Argo to bite into the bank to climb out. I had no problem getting out the way I came in, as the back of the Argo floats higher than the front. My solution was to spin the Argo around and enter the deep spot backwards. made the whole situation much easier to deal with

watching videos takes me a long time because of dial up. but i don't care i sit and wait on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. i think i am ready to buy my own now. just gotta get my wife to test ride it first. no problem. i hope to have it in a few weeks. thanks again for the videos, they are awesome. i hope i can find some terrain like that around my home. that will keep me busy for years.

I really enjoy the videos you post. They are always full of great amphib action. After watching both video,s though , I think if you would have had some of those Escargo tracks , with the tall cleets on them , you would have had enough water speed and traction to cross that small creek , in the first video you posted . Escargo tracks are pricy , but they are really impressive in deep mud and water , for a set of tracks.

lol, If you mean the creek that I backed out of, I did cross that one but I did it backwards......makes it easier to climb out of the creek.
I would LOVE to try the Escargo Tracks, unfortunatly my wife would probably wrap them around my neck if I was to fork out that much cash for ANOTHER set of tracks right now.

Very nice videos that you have. Do you have ice cleats on the super tracks?

I don't have ice cleats on the tracks, but am considering making a set. I am thinking that I might make them out of aluminium, with steel teeth.
Any thoughts??

Hey chapy,
I finally managed to put togeather a couple little clips of my Argo, on Supertracks, running through some sloppy muskeg trails. The little creeks that run through this area are not usually very wide, but the are deep. I got a little suprise at the end of the second clip too.

thanks alot for the help. i only want the tracks for winter. i plan on getting a plow for the argo. summer time i will go back to the bigfoot tires. i have another question about the value of the machine. its a 2000 with a windshield, canopy, brushguard, under 200 hours, seperate wheels and rims for the tracks. pretty well maintained machine. is it worth the $5000. price tag on it??? thanks again

Chapy, this is not a fair comparison being an 8x8 against a 6x6 but in my area a 1997 Conquest is for sale for $4250. It has 310 hrs., super tracks with cleats, full Tundra top and winch. Original Runamuks. The windows in the top are fogged and hard to see in and out. Compared to this Argo, that Bigfoot price looks like pretty good with the extras going with it. It's 3 years newer, 100 less hours, and extra wheels and tires.

i test drove the argo yesterday and it seems to go real good. i also found out that the super tracks have the ice cleats on them. the list of extras gets better everytime i look at the machine. the owner is putting the tracks on so i can try it with the tracks too. it may need a little fine tuning in the motor but other than that it runs and goes great. thanks again.
