i bought a 01 bigfoot with a 3000# superwinch on it . the winch is attached to a 4"x12" steel plate on the front of tub on the inside. so far no problems with hurting the tub but i'm putting on a 3500# superwinch cause i got stuck in the swamp real bad a few times and i burnt out 2 switches(good thing my buddy was there both times to help) as the winch couldn't handle the initial pull out of the heavy suction. I am also considering using a pulley block the odd time & I don't want to install the hoop(too much of a pain to install).Any advise from you fine folks out there. Thanks

Hi
In regards to your winch problem. I carry a pulley block with me hook it to the nearest tree and also exta length of cable if needed. Run the hook back to the argo and hook up. The pulley will multiply the power of the winch. Hope this helps. I use this on my argo. And also this idea on a suburban that was stuck in the snow down to the frame. 10.000 lb winch and it came out very easly with the pulley. The winch by itself would not move the suburban. Hope this helps.

winch plate attachment
paul is your winch backing plate attached to the frame or just to the tub and if to the frame, HOW? i had a brain wave that if i ran wire rope from the backing plate to the frame and used a tightner to take up the slack i could get away from putting a hoop in. Ok,
I checked my Argo winch connections to the tub. The winch is of coarse bolted to the upper tub. There is a spacer plate under the winch frame. It is 1/4 inch plate and may come with the winch. This is bolted (2 bolts one above the other) through upper tub to framing on the inside of the engine compartment. This also connects to the framing that supports the engine compartment at the front where the engine bonnet connects. There is a metal frame that is gusseted on each side goes down and is bolted to the lower tub below the upper tub. This inside frame is only attached to the inner frame that surrounds the engine compartment. This frame is bent to the same angle as the body. This is bolted again with 2 bolts through the lower tub one above the other. This interior frame that may be in all Conquest Argos and all a person has to do is remove the bolts and install the winch to the out side. The upper of the 2 bottom bolts in the lower tub I relpaced this with a eye bolt which I use to fasten my argo to its trailer and also for winching as needed. I hope this helps. I would sent pictures but cannot find a place on the program for attachments.

attaching winch plate to frame
has somebody out there made a simple homemade setup of connecting the winch back plate to the frame for strength. I bought a 01 bigfoot with an older 3000# winch with the back plate just attached to the upper tub and I don't feel that's strong enough. So far I've gotten away without ripping anything out when I'm winching and I'd like to keep it that way. I bought a 3500# winch which I will install as soon as it warms up. If i ever have to use a pulley block I will rip something apart. As you can see I need help and I don't want to go thru argo and their setup. Thks to you all and the more replies the better, as there are so many good ideas and advice out there
