  • 08' 580 6x6 pulls to right with tracks on???

    Hi guys,
Still have the old 70's 8x8 and am rebuilding the drive system in it, but had to have a fishing machine in the mean time that was reliable for Saginaw bay.
I picked up on 08' 580 frontier with 20 hours on it with the winch, brush guard, hand rails, bilge pump and tracks. She's like brand new and I really am enjoying it! With the big snow, no quads are getting out and the crowds have thinned up. I was out last night 9 miles in a big snow and got back with help from God and GPS and Argo!!!
Question: She veers to the right slowly with the tracks on it and I have to keep pulling back left every 100 yards or so...annoying...what causes this...
    Thanks for the help!

Doug, that could be a variety of things but start with the most simple, the circumference of your tires. Don't rely on air pressure since the size of tires vary a good bit. If that isn't it, there are a good many posts on the forums discussing the same topic. If you will use the search you should find some other suggestions.

Thanks Mike...I'll start there! Do I need to remove the tracks to do that? still new to this...

You can probably just jack one side up in the air and slowly rotate that side while you put a soft/fabric tape measure on the tire in the center. Let it go all the way around, write down the circumference and then back the tape measure out. Whatever is easier for you. If you can take the tracks off fairly easily, that may be simpler.

If that doesn't fix your problem you may want to swap the tracks from one side to the other and see what that does.

I can make mine veer off slowly to the right just by sitting on the right side, if I move myself over a bit to the left I run straight. If it's a real slow turn, you might just try sitting a little to the left. I know mine is easier to run straight if there are 2 people in it.
