You would be better off using a snatch block or install a better, stronger battery, A Warn 3000 lb winch uses 198 amps of current at 3000 lbs rated pull, most of us do not have a battery that can handle this draw for more than a few seconds. Going to a 4000 lb winch will up your current draw to 245 amps for 3000 lb rated line pull and 308 for 4000 lbs rated line pull. The increase at 3000 lb pull is due to the higher resistance in the motor windings as the 4000 uses a 1.5 HP motor and the 3000 is .9 HP. So with the standard battery and 3000 lb winch, you would benefit more from a snatch block system as it would pull up to 6000 lb and still only draw 198 amps. It would also only use 125 amps for 4000 lbs of pull versus 308 amps with the 4000 lb winch.. Upgrading the battery to something like an Ultima (the ones that look like a 6 pack) would also help pull more.

Here are links to the Warn 3000 and 4000 winch specifications

Warn Industries - WARN 40 SERIES: RT40 UTV Winch, Side X Side Winch
    09' ARGO Avenger 750 EFI
With near every option Argo makes
    and a few they don't

Don't you winch with the motor running?

Sure, but the diffrence is negligable. Most small engines without an alternator only put out around 5-25 amps and that is at Wide open throttle. My Avenger is rated at 25 amps, but at idle only puts out 7-8 amps, this is only just enough to run the fuel pump, computer and brake fan. Small engines with an alternator usually max out at around 40 amps and although they have higher outputs at idle, also do not put out thier max unless held at wide open.
