  • Spinning 4 wheels on a 8x8

Hi Guys, I was playing in the snow today in my 91 Argo 8x8 Magnum and noticed that I was able to get the left or right side tires to not turn under power in the snow. I thought that these thing put power to all 8 tires all the time. Is this normal for this transmission to act as a limited slip?
    Thanks, Mark

The only AATV transmission in production today that puts power to all wheels and offers true all wheel drive on the vehicle is the Borg Warner T-20 Skid Steer transmission. It is only available in Max AATVs today, but it was used in Attex, Hustler, and a few other smaller companies in the 70's and 80's.

It's not even a limited slip, it's an open differential. Well, you can limit the slip with the steering levers.

Thanks for the information, guess I will have try out my 6x6 tracks on my Argo before I get into to much snow in the mountains. I was told that just putting tracks on the center to wheels would work well on my 8x8. I found a great pack at Gander Mountain to hold things and it fit great for ~$30.

MarkV, when your driving an Argo and you get in extreme situations that cause the wheels to slip on one side you can transfere the power back and fourth on the wheels by lightly touching the levers back and fourth and sending the the power back and forth between the wheels. It sounds crazy but works really well and an exprienced Argo pilot can make it look totally natural. After awhile you do it without even thinking about it. An Argo has a differental and it will send power to the wheels with the least drive, buy applying a little brake to the slipping wheel you send power back to the wheel with traction! You continue with this action applying traction back and fourth until you get to where the drive goes to all eight wheels! It works watch Roger on some of the videos he posted on this site. He can make his 8x8 Argo go places no one else will try!
