  • So, how much to fix

I've noticed an ARGO for sale locally that probably either has problems with the Tranny, the left side drive axel, both, or some combination of the two.

Assuming the worst, what kind of dollars would a rebuilt tranny and required drive axel replacement set a person back for the machine. Don't have any model numbers but the unit is a 2001.

    Thanks for your input

The tranny, depending on wear and tear, probably $600 to $1000 if you take it out and have someone qualified, rebuild it.

Drive axle, it's been a while, but I'd guess over $100, plus bearings & seal, and as long as the bearing flanges aren't damaged. If one is toast you can figure at least another couple of axles could be needing attention. Most either have never been serviced or have been well serviced. No in between.

While you are at it check the chains and sprokets for wear. Also check on the frame on the inside of the tub where the hitch is attached. I've seen a number of them with the frame broke.

Hate to be a bit down on it, but better to go in with eyes open and buy so you can spend some money on it if need be.

      Thanks

That is what I needed. I don't know if I should consider a first machine with known problems of this nature (high dollar fix) . Just glad the seller came clean about it.

      Thanks again

Well, if the price is right.
You will sure learn the workings if you do it yourself. They aren't really difficult. Better to learn on a cheap machine than pay big bucks and have to learn anyway.
