So I have a 2001/2 Bigfoot, and have already added a few small things to make it a better machine. The electric fuel pump had been the single best previous thing that had been done to the machine. As I wait some parts to still come in, these are the upgrades being done at a reputable dealer, Barrows ATV Argo sales and service. Really a great guy, who has been in the business for quite awhile. We are upgrading all the outer bearings to the new HDI, replacing front and rear axles with new HDI, replacing chain tensioners to new style ( courser teeth for improved surface contact with longer nylon runners), new Diamond chain all the way around and associated seals...ect. All sitting on new Argo HeAt tires. I would normally do all the work myself but I just had surgery yesterday and don't think I would have the time otherwise. I was up in the air about buying a new machine but decided an upgraded Bigfoot would be a better fit financially.

i just got my outer and inner bearings today along with chains. i'm revamping all the drive system on my 01" bigfoot. i was thinking of upgrading to the hdi parts and would welcome some feedback on yours once done. i got my bearings and chain from buffalo bearings and found them very helpful. i priced diamond chain from a local distibuter and for all except the two front drive chains it was going to be $491.00 and almost $800.00 to add the bearings also. buffalo bearing was $ 184.00 with shipping for bearings and chain. at the moment this was a more economical solution seeing i just got the machine last october and want to play around for a while trouble free. next time though i want to go bullet proof and slimpickin recommended the diamond chain, so i would love to hear how yours hold up. same goes for the hdi upgrades.

I don't have an argo in the fleet currently, but I can comment on the diamond chain. I ran US Tsubacki in the first few machines I built and was always pretty happy with it. Last summer I decided to try Diamond. Bought a 100 foot roll for $578. ( had 2 machines to do, and figured there would be another in the near future). I put it in the Hustler 950 I built last summer, My wifes Max II in August, and finished off the roll on the Hustler Bigfoot I just built. We ride quite a bit and I just made the second chain adjustment in the Max. The Hustler 950 got adjusted for the second time 2 weeks ago when I sold it. With the Tsubacki I would have already adjusted chains 4-5 times. With the Diamond, the stretch seems to be VERY slow once you get the initial stretch out of them.
As for bearings, Both of my Attex's have Timkens. all my other machines have whatever brand Buffalo Bearing sells (cost difference of $65 PER BEARING on the Hustlers) I can honestly say that my failure rate has been equal between the two brands. I would assume a higher failure rate for the 1" Attex bearings versus the 1 1/4 in the Max, or 1 3/16 in the Hustler just due to size and load rating, But I'm not at all dissatisfied with the product form BB and their customer service should be the example for any company in America. The Greg's (SR, and JR) go out of their way to make sure you have what you need when you need it, and fix any mistakes at a cost to them (speaking from personal experience)A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Costs about $100 per axle, if I remember correctly.

I replace the bearings and seals as they are needed. I don't remember the last time I changed one. I check them and grease the seals twice a year. I've got about 200 hrs on the chain and it looks like I may have to replace the front ones this year. Doesn't look like I have to do it right away. I'm pushing 65 hp and I don't spare the horses if I need them. I keep the chains lubricated twice a year, with a synthetic grease and gear oil that I mix up myself. I think it makes quite a difference in how long they last.
