hi guys, i might have finally found one,she is an old one though. is there anything in particular about these older machines that would have to be upgraded for reliability.

and how can you be positive about the year? (it has argo cut out of the hood "grill"
and the engine exhaust doesn't extend past the side of the body and no metal mesh.
    if that helps any.11467ib_19.jpeg11467ib_19.jpeg

Looks to be in good shape from the outside.

If you take the serial # into a dealer, they can give you a rough idea on the yr, but if you want it exact, either the dealer or yourself might have to contact ODG.

    What engine is in it?

That looks like a TEC model with the 16hp single cylinder Tecumseh engine. You might want to consider (later on) to replace the chain drive to the double chain system of the I/C models, since they are more durable.Engine wise it is known, that Tecumseh went into chapter 11 and is thought to have seized producing small engines,so spare parts are likely to become a problem in the future but an engine swap shouldn´t be the biggest deal (if not already done on yours)

Oh,sorry, overlooked that:if you contact ODG with the serial no of you transmission, they can tell you the precise date of manufacture (granted the transmission is still original)

i am "shopping" across the net,the machine is 1 province over.
the present owner doesn't know it's whole history. the motor at present is a twin kolher, hp?
he is going to take some pics of the running gear later and send them to me.

are those "lawn" tries usable with tracks?

They would work, I would be more concerned about Axles and Outer Axle Bearings. That machine probably doesn't have the Axle Bearing Extensions or the heavier Frame Support.
Might be OK for light duty, but not really the best machine to put tracks on for a number of reasons.

OK,I double checked and can confirm, that it is a TEC model. There are two 8 wheel TEC models:the TB,the standard one and the HTB,the heavy duty one.
Both feature originally a Tecumseh OH 160 single cylinder 16 hp motor,so this one is replaced with the 17 hp Kohler twin from the I/C line (K and K/B models) and that is definitely no downer.
The TEC models split up in:T-6 wheel,TB-8 wheel and HTB-8 wheel heavy duty. The heavy Duty one the double RC 50 chain drive from the I/C models, but is otherwise identical with the other TEC models witch means it has mechanical brakes, the light duty frame (no bottom plate welded in) and the Tecumseh 16 hp motor.

I don't know, and I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble. Pretty much ANYTHING is "possible" if you really want to do it
There are others here that can probably correct me, but I "think" it was around 1988-89 when they started with the heavier support and bearing extensions.

I would like to add that tracks are not the "be all end all". They can do some amaizing things, but you can still go most places without them, and some places where they won't go at all.
In the snow is where I really think the tracks shine.

                      Just my 2 bits
