I'm probably a little biased in my opinion, but first I would ask what are your intentions? There is nothing wrong with either of those models, or other options. It just depends what you want to do with it.

Don't forget the Bigfoot, early 2ks are great buys these days!

Look at getting something in the 2000s, parts are plentiful for 2000s models, plus they are way heiver built then the older models. I have seen, drove, and tested a 1979 Argo 8 (8x8), 1999 Vanguard 6x6 H, 2002 Bigfoot 6x6, 2004 Avenger 8x8, 2006 Avenger 8x8, and a 2011 Argo HDI 750 EFI.

Over all, my 2 favorites are they 1979, it weighs about 600 pounds soaking wet, it's a little tractor, but pretty light duty... and my other in the HDI, which is the ultimate 8x8 amphibious machine on the market today, it's very smooth due to the new transmition and it's built!

As for a used machine, if your not looking to spend that much of a small fortune, try and pick up a 2004-2006 Avenger 8x8, anywhere from 8700$ to 15000$, but a nice, heavily built machine, that if you take care of it, will last you a life time, plus the 8x8 are an all around smoother riding machine, and are consideriblely better in swamp/mud.

Strictly use for hunting, pack everything in to elk and moose camp and hopefully a wapati and a donkey out.i am leaning to the magnum because i have lots of spare parts from previous argo coil, fuel pump, etc.but really like the liquid cooled idea of the conquest????????

OK, in that case, I would recomend whichever one you can find in good shape for a reasonable price. Both will do the job. Pretty much ALL your spare parts should fit either machine with the exception of engine parts. I also like the liquid cooled option, even though it adds a tad more weight, I've seen far too many Air cooled machines with the plastic all melted and sagging from heat generation (I have seen it on the liquid cooled machines too, but not as much).
