  • will my argo swim?NOT!

so today i get home early, the lake is calm im itchin to float my argo.i jump in and head to the beach and ease into the water until im buoyant.i then let of the gas and sure enough im floating.so i figure to venture out maybe 30 feet turn around and come back.thats when i got fooled, had the wheels churning up the water but nothing was happening.a little panic sets it so i put it in reverse but i keep moving forward from my launch momentum.i then pull one lever back and the beast slowly turns and eventually the wheels get some traction on the bottom.figured for sure i was gonna have to get out and push.i have 8 brand new carlisle argo tires and thought it would swim a little better.anyhoo just wondering if this is the norm or is there a trick to swimming?i was giving it lots of throttle maybe that was the trouble.

Stupid question, I know, but ................ Are they on the right way? They don't swim backwards. It's the back 2 tires on each side that push you through the water. I don't think you can turn them too fast, my Argo does in fact go faster when I turn the tires faster (That's not saying much, these things DON'T swim fast)

On a darker note, Our lakes are still frozen here, but it's looking up, I heard that a snowmobile went through the ice on my lake yesterday. Anyone ever tried fishing for sleds? What kind of bait do you use? Jigging, Casting, or Trolling?

        You have them installed correctly.

If this was your first time swimming, it can be a bit unnerving. These machines do go very slowly in the water.

Plott are these the 24's? The 25"s swim great! But still only about 3.9 to 4.0 mph. Don't expect to take off like a jetski.....had a friend try to ski behind a Argo many years ago! Really!!!!! Very funny story.

Try a lower pressure to flatten out the tire more. The 25's are more like a cement block design. Square.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Did you have mud on the tires? Give them a minute to clean out, bring the gas on and then let her ripe, those look like 24" tires and they should swim pretty well, consider currents and wind, you can't swim against a 4 mph current.

tires are 22" carliles and yes there was mud on them.may have been a bit of a current due to offshore breeze as well.will test it out in the pond then we shall see where the bear pooped in the woods.lewis, you got to go into detail on the water ski storey.

                    Ok, here it is:
I have a friend that has a October ride at his house every year and invited the wife and i to come. When i first got the Conquest he and i had done some riding in his woods and so he reminded me to bring it in October to the big ride, so i did and it was a hit with all the children and adults as they did not want to get muddy and 4-wheelers were their only option at the time. We were standing around and he was telling me how his brother had one of the Argos many years ago. He was asking me if it would swim in the water and i said yes. The he started telling the story.

His brother called him one day and told him to get his skis out and meet him at the river where they always went boating so he did. My buddy Jay met him there and was looking for the boat which was not there, but on the trailer was a brand new 6 wheel vehicle. His brother by this time with a unusual machine had drawn a crowd and all were looking forward to seeing what they were up too. Jay gets his skis out and his brother attaches the ski rope to the tow hitch while Jay gets in the water to await the big take off. All is ready, rope attached, jay in the ready position, the moment comes......full throttle! Needless to say it was a bust. As the machine lumbered forward at a bout .5 mph the crown went wild Of course we all know that these things don't go fast enough to pull a skier behind. Poor Jay was so embarrassed about the great ski show. His wife also commented on it as she rolled her eyes and chuckled.
I was not there but Jay was telling me about it as we were at the ride and yes....i had to laugh. Jay has never really gotten that out of his memory, but now he can laugh about it. I still get mental pictures of this event unfolding and can not help but chuckle about it. Jay is a great guy and a sport for telling it.
