First Video of New Argo 6x6

First video of my new Argo 6x6 580, purchased from Adair Argo -- I couldn't be more satisfied with the machine or Tim at Adair's (the guy is a true pro who loves what he does). Due to having cerebral palsy, I moved the brake to the right handgrip, so that I can drive with just one hand, and added a padded hip/seat belt to keep my lower body in place -- and drive her like a champ. I went with the 3.3 low gearing, and with the 18hp Vanguard, torque is phenomenal. It was a tough call between the 580 and the 650, and I'm so glad that I went with the 580, giving me all of the performance that I ever need, at a terrific price point.

It's interesting in that some people note having a learning curve to 6-wheel "skid-steer" vehicles. However, being a life-long power wheelchair user and manufacturing power mobility products like power wheelchairs and scooters, it's very intuitive to my everyday mobility. Today's power wheelchairs are center-wheel drive, and handle strikingly similar to a 6-wheeler in steering, so when my family's like, "How did you just squeeze that Argo past the van, and back it into the corner of the garage?" I note that it's totally natural to me, handling just like a power chair!

Below is a link to my first video, and actually my first time out -- so it gives some idea of how well it works for me. You'll see me stop once or twice -- as when crossing the abandon railroad tracks -- as I'm a thinker type, and try to use intelligence to negotiate challenging terrain over brute force.

I couldn't get the embedded video player to work, so maybe Mike can edit the link with the right embeded code. But, for now, here's the direct YouTube link:

Congratulations on the Argo and you did an excellent job for your first time out. It's pretty impressive how well your experience with powered wheelchairs crosses over into the AATV world. Thanks for sharing.

Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice looking machine. Keep on driving
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

                            15hr Argo 6x6 580 Update

While my 2011 Argo 6x6 580 is positioned as ODG's entry-level machine, it's proving far better than I ever imagined after 15 hours on the gauge. The 18hp Briggs, with the low 3.3 gear ratio option has proved itself stunning, starting without throttle even when cold, idling smooth, accelerating seamlessly – and with astounding power. We've been climbing giant column banks (dunes made from coal shale), and while quads bog down and get stuck, I've actually steered around them, with no loss of power. It actually accelerates from the bottom to the top of hills. If this machine has a point where it bogs down, we can't find it, no matter in High or Low.

Similarly, on steep downgrades in Low, a steady dose of slight throttle allows it to crawl down the steepest grades, no braking needed, feeling very safe and controlled.

My two peeves are that the supposed transparent gas tank is impossible to read void of direct sunlight and shaking the machine (ODG, please just give us a real fuel gauge), and the body is concave in front of the headlights, collecting debris and puddles (I see no reason why they did that during tooling of the body).

I'm running Royal Purple products in both the engine and transmission, and a LiquiVac sure makes changing the oil a breeze (Briggs also offers a short and long filter, so we put on the long version for good measure).

In watching YouTube videos, it seems like most folks run mud and swamp, but we've been having the most fun running wooded trails, moto-style. The power and agility of the machine in Low allows WOT on some tight, twisty trails, where at 8mph or so, it seems like you're doing 30 (I wear full upper-body moto gear just in case I catch a branch or such). I'm surprised more people aren't using these as “dual-sport” rides on wooded, single-track type terrain – it really is a blast.

In short, I couldn't be more pleased with my 580 geared at 3.3 – and I don't think there's a better bang for the buck.

I,m running Royal Purple in my engine and transmission too. I love my 2011 Argo Frontier, but I sure wish that I'd had the option of a 3.3 transmission when I bought it.

                                Hey pcmark...

sounds like a lot of fun...your adventures running the atv trails reminds me of a unusual experiance we had last winter in southwest Misourri ... we had a terriable ice storm and as the ice kept forming on all of the tree limbs it would continually melt slightly and fall off...weirdest thing i've seen, looked like 6" of processed ice cubes everywhere....we were out late that night riding on our local atv trails behind our house and it was so neat how our normal steep and rocky terrain was smooth and grippy for the tires we had on...the ice chunks were the perfect surface for steep hill climbs and fast runs down trails that we normally had to go pretty slow on....by the next day it had started to warm up and melt a little...trails got a little slushy and fun to slide around on...pretty funny to watch my buddies and I as we were a couple of grown men acting like little kids "drifting" around the corners and giggling and smiling ear to ear

                                what a blast!
