Has anyone thought to dump a gallon or so of used motor oil in their tub to keep everything all lubed up? I dumped all my oils from motor/trans into tub and drove it around to lube up the rusty chains.......worked amazing!

It makes a hell of a mess, and it smells :-)
Make sure you don't do that on a machine that has an alternator.

There's a lot of potential to get oil thrown on your drive belt, too. It's a much better idea to lubricate your chains with any one of the dozens of great products out there designed as chain lubricants that won't fly around in the tub.

smell? I did not notice any smell other than the raunchy stench of the swamps I drive through. As for sling onto belt....I had the thing topped right out on a smooth dirt road.....must hit close to 30, pretty scarry hehehhehe......no sling on belt at all. There really is not enough oil in there to sling huge all over, it hangs in the lower sproket areas just enough to dip the chain as it rolls through and splash around a bit. My chains that were all rusty look great now, so does the bearing retainers, axles, and all the frame work. Looks messy, but functions pretty good. I already let most of it out, not sure if I want to clean it just yet. Seems like a great corrosion barrier.
