how difficult is it to install other than the wiring and how do they operate? are they just on all the time, do they come on when you hit the brakes and if so how is the switch operated and connected? i've looked at the accessories manual but can't quite figure out how they operate with the laterals. does each light operate with the corresponding lateral, turn left the left light comes on? the accessory manuals really just show the wiring harness but no info on operation. i'm thinking of doing this also but wonder if it's really worht it?

      thanks

install is easy including wireing, switches mount to dash behind steering levers and opperate when levers are pulled back. lights only come on when both switches are activated. so you can still set one parking brake without lights coming on. the kit is well worth it for me because i need brake/tail lights to reg in nh. the switches are plunger type with rollers that hit steering levers when you pull the handle back theroller releases the plunger. both switches need to activate to illuminate brake lights lights come one when you turn on headlights and brake lights come on when both brakes applied i will try to post pics

Where did you find the kit? When I talked to my dealer he told me taillights only. I have the same problem for operating in WY - must have taillights AND brake lights.

why not get 2 brake light switches from some motorcycles, mount them each behind the levers on the fire wall, then feed in springs in the small hole on the switch on them then attach the other spring end on hose clamps around the levers?go look at a motorcycle brake set up,you will get an idea.have the live from the battery or source to any one of the two wires of the switch then the other wire from the switch to the lights.simple series

Finally got around to researching this. When I looked into this last year all I could find was part 624-00, a tail light kit for the conquest era machines. Well, that part is discontinued now and in its place is the all new 624-05, tail/brake light kit.

Too cool! I'm glad I procrastinated that project.

[edit] Oh, I just found the install instructions here. Shows off all the parts of the kit.

[another edit] Ah, and it looks like December last year when it showed up. I barely missed it.

Bought the kit. The dealer did not have them in stock so I had to wait awhile for delivery. It showed up last Friday and when reading the instructions the first thing I notice is that the last revision of the instructions dates 2006. ??!! I asked my dealer specifically for something to do this last year. Oh Well...

It is a nice and complete kit.

There are a couple things I thought I would pass on to those that follow:

The wire colors on the light assembly so not match the instructions. The color I put in parenthesis is the color spliced to on the included wire harness. Black (brown) will obviously be ground, red (red) is brakes, tan (white) is taillight. I've done a fair amount of wiring for trailers and campers and the harness brown-white seem backwards to me.

The changes to the kit that I made:
I switched the butt splices at the fixtures for their heat shrink counterparts. I also added a 4-flat connector so that I could also run trailer lights.

                        Changes to the instructions:
The first group of instructions have you use a template to drill relief/access holes for the light assemblies. Then you take the lens off the assembly, hold it against the vehicle, drill a couple of holes, and then install screws to attach it. Change this; go ahead with the template holes, then run your wire out the access hole and do the splicing outside of the vehicle and then attach the assemblies.

The instructions have you disconnect the battery ground and I'm not going to say don't do this but all I did was pull the headlamp fuse.

You need to attach the source wires to the headlamp switch. Dang tough unless you take the switch out. The knob is threaded so wind off the knob and removing the switch becomes obvious.
