  • Finally back from 4 weeks in the bush

Well, I'm "kinda" back........I'm out in the bush working for a week now. Wife and kids are still on VA someplace. I think I've spent 2 sleeps in my own bed in the last 5 weeks.
It all started with a 3 week trip in to our cabin, 16km ATV ride through HELL to get to the lake this yr. Holly cow it was wet on the way in, probably the worst I've seen the trails in the last 25yrs. My oldest daughter opted to drive her Argo in, which was both a blessing and a curse.........5.5hrs to travel the 16km. Once we got there, we had fantastic weather, in 3 weeks, we only had 2 slightly rainy days, and just enough windy days to get the sailboat out ripping a few times. Kids had a blast, Waterskiing, Kneeboarding, tubing, fishing, Kayaking and swimming, ect. Also had a chance to fly mom out to visit us for a couple weekends (Restock supplies), got to go out shooting a few times, even came across a baby MINK. Now that was cool, I picked it up (It appeared to be stunned, in the middle of the trail), it was very friendly, kids got to pet it, when it recovered from whatever happened, I let it go off the trail. I brought a SeaDoo out to the lake this past winter, now that thing rips.......Up to 70mph untill I sucked up a nice rock and hammered the Imp and wear ring, lol. Another thing that "rips", is the fuel through this thing, I burt almost 30 cans of gas just playing around. Had to have extra fuel dropped off for us, and made several fuel runs to my truck. I have a huge Bald Eagle feather collection, and managed to add quite a bit to it this trip, too. Wife and kids are getting more comfortable on the Hobie Cat, I even managed to get Diane out sailing in some pretty brisk winds.
Anyway, I'm trying not to write a book here. I do have quite a few vids that I intend to post, and hope they will speak for me. After the trip to our cabin, we bolted down south to a place called Gavin Lake, the kids spent a week in "Fiddle Camp". I spent the week catching Rainbows in the lake, and wife spent time trying to keep up with the kids fiddle lessons, lol.

My intent here is to make this thread rediculously pic and vid heavy, but it will be over a couple weeks. Too much to do, and so little time.

This vid is a general overview of some of the things we got into, it has a few pics in it as well. Mostly short, quick looks at some of our activities. I intend to add some more specific vids later.
Vid is a little long, but it moves quick

This is a look at the first time I took my wife out in a bit of a heavy wind with the Hobie Cat. It didn't take long and she was at the wheel ripping across the lake

I was going to put this in the "Chat" forum, but it's mostly ATV stuff anyway.
    Cheers

      Some pics

A friend toasted his water pump on the way out one day, so we replaced it. Had a friend pull one off my old engine and send it out to us.
Nice, easy spot to work on

      Had to make some gaskets

Trouble was that it wasn't the water pump, or the water pump gaskets that were leaking. It was the next gasket back, the Crankcase Gasket................or maybe it's a crack, hard to tell, can't see in there too well. We decided to pack it full of silicone and go for it

We let it set over night, and drove it out.

A 25" tire mounted on a Conquest, beside a 24" Frontier. He didn't have a spare, so we tried it.....took a few drinks, but we made it fit.

Rd i have just changed that gasket on my coquest engine still on the floor till bearings and chains are done, when you order gaskets make sure they order you 2 o rings that are under that cover for the oil pump i believe. They are square cut orings.they forgot when i ordered,i reused old with a little silicone film smeared on for insurance.just a little bit of praire knowledge (sask)haha lol

LOL, ya. Not much chance of that, although if you do show up, I will take you fishing

This is one of the bad spots on the trail, The mud is very thick.

I know you are not supposed to collect feathers (Illegal in the US, and might be in Can as well, not sure), but walking down the beach looking for them is a good way to keep the kids entertained, and I don't think too many people would complain about looking .

                Hell of a place

Sometimes you have to go through HELL to get to a place like this

This is how I got mom out to visit. She brought us some fresh Fruit and Veggies. The guys that own this company are friends, one was flying in the area. Very COOL chopper, It only took 5 min to cover the ground that we took 5.5hrs to cover

RD You NEED a set of Adair tracks. I can tell you first hand not only would you eat those trails for lunch but you could also pull the others behind you. Right up the middle. Just an opinion from a happy customer. They just dont get stuck. PS that chopper is SICK!

I would love a set of Adair Tracks, and have almost pulled the trigger on a set a few times. Unfortunately something always comes up.....
                    Someday though.
I wonder if Adair would let me demo a set, lol.

That chopper.......... Very cool. I get to ride in A Stars, and 206's a fair bit, and they are nothing compared to this Dolphin. I'm told that this one and two others that these guys have are the only 3 in Canada.

If I was Adair I would have sent you a set a while ago. Your vids are awesome. (best advertising you can get) That pilot gave you a good ride. Damn you were low. Did I see a "squatch" hiding at 1:46? LOL

I think that was my brother, he was all pissy about me getting a ride in the chopper, so he went out riding around and pouting for a while.

It's a trade-off, the plastic tracks would be helpfull in some places, but would be a real PITA and quite damaging to the machines in other places. The worst places, on these trails, for the tracks is in the hard ruts and tight spots between trees. Supertracks are the worst, but even the standard tracks will twist and slash tire sidewalls, The guides can drive right up into the rims, damaging (sharpening) the tracks and causing sharp bits of plastic on the end of the guides to drive right through sidewalls as well. I almost put the Standard tracks on my daughters machine for this summer, but could not bring myself to do it. I have no doubt that they would help in some of those "mung" holes, but other spots they would just be hard on riggin. Not to mention that the rocks would eat the plastic tracks over time.

PS, Hey PH, have you ever driven out of a track in such a way that it balls up and gets jammed betweent he tires and the lower tub? Now that is an experience I don't want to have to deal with again
