Engine upgrade Briggs, Kohler, or Kawasaki

Looking to upgrade the engine in my 93 ARGO magnum. I have a few questions.
Since a new engine is going to cost me $1500- $2000 I want to get the best I can.
How big can I go?
How big should I go?
Which engine will be the best.
Should I get air cooled or Liquid cooled?
I value the opinions of the ARGO owners on here and I'm notfamiliar with the Kawasaki engine.

Well thats an interesting thought. I have read about others making that conversion but not sure I want to make all the mods required. I will need to think about that for a while. Lets see, 27HP -30HP for $1500 -$2000 versus 60HP -70+HP for under $1000. Hummmmm. lol
