I am curious how an Argo with tires (22") will perform compared to a decent sized quad? Obviously when you get to a water hole there will be no contest. But take general rutted up quad trails for instance will it get hung up when the quad will keep going or will it walk all over the quad. As you can tell I am new to the Argo world. Have about an hour so far in my machine so kind of curious how it will perform in the rugged stuff. See lots of vids of some wild terrain being conquered but a lot of times there is a quad trailing behind. What are your thoughts?

Get yourself a set of Adair tracks like I did , and you'll amaze your 4-wheeler friends in the places you can go and they can't.
This is an Argo Bigfoot with 22 inchs tire and Adair tracks on it. That day we had about 15 atv's and 5 side by sides watching us drive through this mud hole that none of them would even attempt to try after they saw how bad it was.
After Mike and I have driven through this pudding mud about three times each it became VERY HARD to drive through. If we did'nt have the Adair tracks on both Argo's ,we'd never made it out with any brand of tires.Last edited by mudbug3; 08-19-2011, 10:24 PM.

i just got my first 6x6 a couple of weeks ago,i was assuming i would have to watch out for that. (getting hung up on a quad rut)
but surprisingly it hasn't happened.
it is kinda amusing i can't figure out why it isn't happening, kinda hard to look under while driving.
but my bigfoot will go over any trail that my 350 fourtrax can.

I actual just got hung up in a rut. My tires are nearly tredless, all i had to do is lean and it walked right out. My buddie was behind me on a 2003 500 sportsman. He said it was so funny, ever time i hit a bump hard i looked like a boble head doll. Blah Blah Blah. I hit the mud hole i always go through, and when he hit it, it swollowd his wheeler to 3/4 up to the top of the fenders. The look on his face of "the argo didnt sink how is this deep" was magical.
if you want something that will go anywhere you point it get an arogo. If you want a cushy ride and want to be able to sustain 50 MPH plus, get a four wheeler, or a jeep. But then, i am opperating off of what i know and that is a 70s argo, i bet with a suspension in the seat, more power and bigger tires (mine are just 20x11x8s) and another axel aka a 8x8 wheeler, it may beat a four wheeler all overAlaska floating atvs group on face book. I built a suspension seat for my Max IV and I liked the results so much that I really thought I'd build one for my new Argo Frontier ( 2011 ) when I got it. That thought changed when I experienced just how comfortable the thicker padded seats are on the new Argo's. I don,t like to ride fast because this just puts extra stress on the axles and axle bearings, and where I like to ride is usually very hard and techical, so riding slow is where its at for me. As comfortable as the new Argo seats are now, you don,t really need a suspension seat ,unless you like to ride really fast on really rough terrain.

what a concept!! with a rough guestimet how much padding would you say there is on your seat?? I also heard that the 8 wheelers ride nicer than the six wheelers, theory being that the center axel acts as a pivot point so since the 8 whelers have a longer wheel base, they dont "bounce" so bad.Alaska floating atvs group on face book. I measured the seat on my 2011 Argo Frontier and it measures 5 1/2 inches thick. I don't know what density of foam that Argo is now using in the new seats, but its really comfortable!I've ridden an Argo 8x8 and an Argo 6x6 and the 8x8 is a lot smoother over bumps.

Argos definately aren't built for speed.. They will go anywhere though.. When the quads stop and turn around you can keep going.. Makes for seeing some nice spots hunting...
In my 4 years of owning one I have only had a few issues that I was "stuck"..
One was crossing a tree that was on a cutline, and the machine got high centerred.. The chainsaw made short work of that.. The next would have been when we were coming down a cutline that a trapper had removed some of the trees from.. Being that he was on a quad, he only cut a hole big enough for it, so I had a bit of sawing to do.. The last one was in a water hole that was about 2 feet longer than the machine with steep banks... I couldn't get any momentum and was floating in the middle of it.. Ran the winch line out about 10 feet and pulled the machine foward by hand, while a friend ran the gas and it climbed right out...
Mine has definately had way more non-stuck moments than stuck that is for sure..
