  • Rebuild price

What would be a ballpark figure to put all new axles, chains and new bearings in a response 8x8. 97 model.
On a side note what would an 05 avenger with about 200 hrs. be worth. Would 7500 be pretty good price if everything works.

Thanks for info I am not all that familiar with Argos so wasn't real sure what all parts are needed. May go for the avenger at 7500.00. I know that's a good price just don't want to have to rebuild it on top of 7500.00. I have seen that 05s have had some trans issues and bearing problems

The rebuild cost for your Response depends on what condition it's really in. Many dealers will also rebuild it with aftermarket parts which are the same or better quality than stock at a fraction of the price. I use Diamond brand chain which usually runs $600 for an 8x8. Argo sprockets hold up very well so depending on the extent of your worn chains, sprockets are usually good for another round. Bearings can be had for under $30 each plus the seals and aluminum housing. Axles can be repaired if the seals have groved them, or you could even upgrade to the HDI bearings and solve all those issues.

how do you up grade to HDI bearings, and where can you find non-argo parts?

              Hey madmac,

Check out RockDoctor's threads. He has one explaining how he did the upgrade and shows the parts needed. Argo has also put together kits for doing this upgrade on the more recent models; check the online "argo parts" sites, call your local dealer, or PM one of the member dealers.

I have a '97 conquest and can use the Argo kit for the inner axles but would need to do some machining to perform the upgrade on the bearing extensions of the outside axles.

The non-Argo parts is probably a reference to seals and bearings. There are many threads identifying non-Argo part numbers that cross-reference at a much cheaper price. Oh, and I see he mentions chain too. If you have time then watch ebay. I way beat MaxRules' $600 (I think I was around $160) to replace chains (double 50) and currently I'm sitting on 25% of the next replacement. I just watched and waited.
