  • Older 80s argo 6 options

Spookum has an argo 6 from the eighties. It has 1 inch axles, and is a shear pin rig. I was wondering if he keyed his axles and sprockets, and cages his front and back bearings, if he could run argo standard tracks without any heartache. I am scratching my head trying to come up with the best option for the little rig.

why does everyone hate the shear pin axles? lol my uncle runs his I/C with 23hp Vanguard and has shear pin axles he doesnt even take tools out with him when we ride i put 5/16 structural steel hex head cap screws all around and he has yet to brake one in 4 years, are we missing something or just lucky? lol

Funny you should ask. I loaned out my shear pin 8x8 this week to a buddy, and he didn't make it a mile on his overnight. I was not there, and the wife loaned it out, and he had no idea about it or how to fix it. If you have ever been in that situation, it is tough paying your dues. So, I think we all hate them because you have to drive a certain way to not break them. Over time you learn. If you just want to go for it on a shear pin argo, you will not get far. I asked Shannon if she told him about them. She said no, and I said oh my goodness, the result was predictable. I have done the bolts, and I am thinking seriously of keying this new argo, axles and sprockets, from the get-go
