  • Half tracks and 6 or 8

So, I remember Robinhood02 saying he tracked the first two axles on some rigs. Here is what I am wondering
I have a 1990 Magnum that I am working with a friend trying to either make tracks for, or purchase some if his. That argo has a good deal of room for tracks
My other argo is a 1987 8x8, and has less room I THINK. So, I found some tracks for an old 6x6

and what I am wondering is if these tracks would work on my front three axles, or front two, on that older argo. Also, do you think I could handle deep snow that way, and if not, do you think I could put on extensions and handle snow that way. It's all a shot in the dark, but I know the knowledge is out there
Last, I guess, do you think I could successfully add segments to these, I don't know much about tracks, and I don't know what kind these are, or where to get more. The limiting factor is always money for me, so I have to think if crazy stuff
edit: I have 22x10x8 runamucks on this rig, and no caged bearings or extensions presently

Yes you can run just the front 3 just fine only real issue is inclines......if you need to go up steep snowy hill you dont have the rears digging in but other than that they worked great for me like that

And no issues with clearance? That will be the thing, I may have to throw a pair of rawhides on the back, who knows, might help it swim. Their circumference is a bit less.

Couldn't you back up an incline if you had to, heavy nose down, light keester up? Also, I noticed Richard's sells 5 inch extensions, do you recommend, I was thinking I could get ice cleats all around the outside if I went this route, with no tub clearance issues

no clearance issues, tracks are tracks they are all within the same thickness, 13" standard tracks dont require extensions but the supertracks in your pic do require extensions and lug nut extensions

If you get supertracks (18") you can cut off the inside tabs... no need for extensions.

I cut my Supertracks off on the inside. 1.5'' lost on both tracks, but without the spacers i'm almost 6'' less overall width.
Have not really noticed the differance in floation, and less stress on the bearings. Tracks are 16.5'' now.

Man, I think I like that idea. Scary, but cool. and yet, less span makes less stress. Do you all run caged bearings. I put a drawing of a caged bearing idea I had, with just a UHMW donut bearing, that I think would improve strength. The magnum has factory front caged bearings, I think
