My argo has the 18HP B&S. That motor has a 20amp charging system built in. I can't see needing anything more than 20amp's, unless you are running tons of electrical accessories!Jeff

They're not all 20.. most argo briggs are advertised as 16 amp, and that takes about 2500 rpm to get it all. The brake fan says 8 amps on it. So night riding with a lot of idleing and winching, and a less than great battery could push the limits. I'm not a fan of the alternator, it's in the way, expensive, and you have to lose the pull start to install it. The new briggs vanguards.. the 23 at least have a 20-50 amp option. The frontier has it. Slow idle, the ammeter is in positive territory. I like a switch on the brake fan to save battery.To Invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.
