  • Clever Trevor's seat apron

    Hello,
First of, Rock Doc, I have not quit making your winch cover, it's just harder. Anyway, user Trevorakm1 contacted me to make him an item. He saw it in Cabella's, but needed something a little different. Basically a seat apron for frequently retrieved items. it looked like this

so, we talked dimension, and came up with this 30" deal, with about 8 or 9 inches of pocket. It's got a little elastic for pens and stuff in one pocket, and it's got a removable center "grab bag" with several mesh pockets in it, it's got some steel grommets for drainage. Anyway, a neat idea.

yeah that's just what i wanted, very cool and quick. i'm still trying to sort out the details in my head of what i wanted and blam you're already done. it looks like it'll work great and the detachable center pouch my kids are going to love and fight over who gets to carry it. like i said i love multicam and it'll look great with the tundra green of my bigfoot. i have to keep scrolling up to look at it again. this looks to be a great match to the rifle bag set up i'm getting. hit me with the seat back nerf bar cover. im glad i reached out to you for this, aaron. thank you!

i just noticed the item your using as a weight in one of those pictures, that 2012 FAR/AIM. i have to tell ya i really don't mind not having that thing in my life anymore although it is one of the best books to sleep by. any of the pilots around here will know what i'm talking about when i say far 91.2 section b of subpart a of regulation 96.8 subset d which is superceeded by section 3 of reg 98.103 section 2 subpart f.....blah, blah, blah......no disrespect and very informative but what a page turner.

No hurry on that winch cover, sorry I have not gotten back to you in the last couple days, very busy at home.
I like the seat apron, a friend has something VERY similar hanging off the back of his Argo seat. No idea where he got it, but it works great.

I"m actually sitting at my desk here at work with the FAR/AMT book.
I want nothing to do with it after work hours
or during work hours for that matter!

So, does that Apron just hang from the "Square Tube" seat frame? How are you "mounting" it,........... buttons, hooks? It looks like it would be easy to modify it to hang from behind the seat Backrest.

i'm not exactly sure how i want to mount it. i could just fasten it to the bottom of the bench seat and let the excess lay over the trays under the seat as a sort of dust cover. the only disadvantage is if i pull the seat out this apron goes with it and all that it holds and could be cumbersome. i really want to hard fasten to the seat/ tray frame so i can remove the seat and get at the trays. my thought is i can put easy to reach items in this and i have found a doulble rifle bag that can be hung from the back seat rest i n the rear of the argo like the pouch system argo sells. the rifle bag is in the same camo and holds two rifles, two pistols, and has three pouches on the outside. it also has molle attachment points on either side of the pouches so more storage can be added and customized to suit needs. it a voodoo tactical 42" rifle bag that also has harness straps so can be worn as a pack. this rifle bag is versital for carry other items other than guns but will work well for hunting. i'm trying to rig the argo for maximum storage without comprimising seating area. i'm still looking for some sort of bag to fill that area in the back between the lower tub rear wheel and the rear of the tub below the back seats, sort of triangular. i'm leaning toward some of those saddle bags for bicycles. maybe aaron can come up with something for that to. i'm 6' tall so my legs are usually a way from the front of the gas tank so i thought this was a good spot for some storage, things that can be grabed easy...phone, first aid kit, and so forth. i don't plan on filling everything and weighing the argo down, i just like to have the option. i like convenience, practicality and the k.i.s.s. principle.

kevin, i didn't even think of those bucket buddy's. i've seen more plumbers with those and it never dawned on me, but now you got the wheels in my head turning. the thing i like about the apron aaron made is the camo, as my daughters say daddy's favorite color is camoflage. aaron also went above what i thought it was going to be. hopefully he's working on a cover for a pipe insulation for the back of the seat rest in the same camo. my youngest sometimes hits her head on that bar and i want it covered and camo.

the FAR/AIM book is the federal aviation regulations and the airman's information manual combined into one book, very necessary but a dull and not exactly user friendly. ot's of flipping back and forth between regulations. you get to know it eventually but very dry reading and update every year as aviation evolves.

Trevor, I was thinking of making some bags to hang off of the back of the seat bar for the girls, but if you are going to do voodoo tactical there, I won't take up that space. I think it's time to get out a camera and some tape, and work your maximum storage into the soft top. I am pretty good at molle, wish I had known you were going molle, I would have worked it into the bag I just did. Anyway, everyone is benefitting from the discussion, so get me something to work on. I have enough material to do one or maybe 2 soft tops, lots of clear vinyl. RD, do you like the big buckle and strap on that center grab bag? That is what I am thinking of doing on your winch covers. I don't know of you can tell, but it has a "T" shaped nylon fob sewn to the end of the strap to pull it tight easily with a glove on, and the buckle is big, so it's easy with gloves.

well can you make up a cover for the pipe insulation peice i'm putting over the back rest bar? 39" long x 6" to 6 1/4" when flat and that will wrap the pipe insulation nicely, and velcro as a fastener down the length and of course multicam camo. i'll settle up with you when done with that and get some dims and my intentions for the rear cargo/ seating area skirt cover. i think i know how to do it and i want to use para cord as a sincher to seal the area of. this is to keep as much leaf litter and such from filtering down in to the bottom of the tub. i'll pm you about the details when your done with the pipe cover. also as far as rocdoc's winch cover, i am more than happry to wait till that's done,, also interested in one of those to. i'm on the fence about a fully enclosed top but have a different idea in mind as a back up, i'll pm you about that. anyone ever get any fears of carbon monoxide and fully enclosed tops?

I just looked at one of my Conquests, and was thinking I would get maybe 5 Gromets sewn across the apron at the hight that it will hang, just below the seat. Drive a screw or bolt through each gromet, and through the square tube under the seat. It won't interfier with the tray, it will be strong, the extra can still lay over the tray as a dust cover.

Maybe sew a couple "secret" pockets to the back side of that apron. Might want to keep something there that is out of the way, out of sight, something you don't need or use often. Registration papers or something.

Would like to see a pic of that bag if possible

That's a good idea too. I just put tape over the insulation on that bar on mine. Of course it came apart due to wear and tear over time. My middle daughter smacked her lip pretty hard on a bare spot this fall. Her teeth cut the inside of her lip, blood and spit everywhere, lots of tears...................... she's a tough kid and put it behind her, but ,I felt bad about that one.

I think about it (in my line of work, the subject comes up often), but all the tops I've been in are not real "air tight", seem to have lots of air movement.
I used to ride in quite a few Machines with tops on them at work, and I also have to wear a Gas Monitor all the time. I have never had the CO Sensor set off, but I did have the LEL sensor scream at me a few times. Never noticed the O2 drop below 20.8 or 20.9%

These things are quite warm to ride in, so unless it's REALLY cold out, you probably won't want it closed up tight anyway.

                            Trevor,
I will have the other piece done today or tomorrow. On carbon monoxide, yes, we had trouble with it once, very scary. What you want to do is first have a good exhaust with no leaks. For further protection, snorkel the exhaust up or to the back with flexible hose, and plug the sides of the argo with 2 8x8x8 blocks of foam, just left and right of the seat, but inside the body halves. For last measure of security, battery powered monitor in the back with the girls. We had sleeping kids in an argo with a top, and had an exhaust leak. We had a small distance to go, so we went, but the kids had tummy aches when we got back to camp. I did not realize that the exhaust was channeling through the body, and accumulating. So, up front, we were fine, but the air quality in the back was getting dangerous. A longer trail ride...I shudder to think. Head on a swivel, it's a big scary world.

i might just swing by the airport supply shop and pick up some of those little stick on carbon monoxide detectors. never had a problem when i was instructing but i did keep an eye on the detectors during the winter and i made sure they were changed regularly during the winter. i remember back in school and having to go to mcdill afb in tampa to do the atltitude chamber. i was given a basic math test to do once they got us to altitude. i was going along with simple addition and i think i only got to the third problem and i was stupified and staring. i never notice the instructor telling me to put my mask on, he had to get me started and i finished putting it on. it was fun till i got stupid in about 20 seconds or so, very scarey. i would think small children that much more suseptable. aaron i'm going to send you the dims for the back cargo area skirt tomorrow and my ideas for tying down. i've been looking at ammo pouches the right length to hang of the back handrails and cover up the argo bigfoot stickers. the stickers are 10 1/2" x 5" tall maybe you can fab two pouches to hang off the handrails on the outside. looking to store a poncho andother cloth items in them. i''ll talk to you more about it when i send you some dims.
rd, that is exactly how i want to hang the apron. gromets and screws in the seat frame. the remainder of the apron should cover the trays and act as a dust cover. when i ride here in the summer if not in the lead you get dusted if it hasn't rained. it's not alot but builds over time. i like the idea of all these items matching camo.
aaron i have that cordura material free if you wnat it.
