  • one grease fitting ortwo?

Hi, I'm in the process of rebuilding my 87 8x8. I noticed the outer flanges only have 1 grease fittings on them. The new ones have 2 greasing fittings. I'm planning on using sealed bearings when i put it back together. Do i need to update to the newer outer flanges or just use the old ones? I don't know the benefit of the second grease fitting. Anyone have an opinion?

I would update for sure, double the protection in water is always good,if you got it apart why not sealed brgs are only as good as how much you protect them from water and grit.JMO

Interesting to note that the newest Argo axles have heavier wheel mount plates, with larger bearings, (Didn,t Roc Doc make a movie of upgrading a Conquest?) The wheel rim has an access hole,so does the wheel mount plate, so that you can grease the One and only grease zerk without removing the wheel. Nice when you've got the tracks on.

Well, you could upgrade to the new HDI Outer Bearing assemblies. It would be a bit more, but you're half way there.......$100 per axle. I did one of my Conquests and am more than happy with them.

Thanks for the update my friend. I have only heard good reports on the new bearing myself. Somebody made a few trial Rim Rings that fit over the new longer wheel studs and have a (saw tooth) inner edge. Great for climbing into the machine. I hope they become available.

That's good news that I didn't know. I assume that they come with the five 7/16"-20 shoulder nuts that hold them on? You only need one or two. Drivers side second wheel back from front for getting into the front seat. Maybe one for the back seat, not sure.
