80's ARGO

Hi all,

Well I finally had to get serious with my 80 model 8x8, both front right and second front right bearings collapsed. The axles were going nowhere heat,penetrene etc and finally cut them out.

Now I need 2 new axles with bearings etc etc, does anybody have an actual drawing for the axles with lengths etc? Can probably work it out but thought someone may have a drawing or an axle out that could give me accurate measurements ( mine is cut up)

Also I did not see seals on the shafts, did this model have seals?

I apologies for the late reply, I have a 1980 model 8x8 with a serial number of TB2166.

I emailed a couple of places regarding the older 1 1/4 axles, they are telling me they cannot find any.So I would really appreciate if someone could give me some accurate measurements so I could get some manafactured ( or if someone has a couple in good condition?) I also need a front right sprocket as i needed to cut it to get the shaft out.

Also is A UC206-20 the correct bearing for the 1 1/4 axles?

It does not look like this thing has seals, what do you use to stop the water seeping through? Grease?

As I said I would appreciate any help you can give me, (and I really need help! LOL)

Is the muffler still available for this model? Mine is rusted out.

On a positive the minister for war and finances has given me the ok to buy a new one next year

Does anybody know what the axle is made of, is it 4140 bar? Thinking I could grind off the hubs and weld a new piece of bar on.

Any help appreciated.

I don't no the metal type i just went to my local metal fab shop showed him the axle and he then cut me 4 1 1/4 shafts off for my Argo since it's from the 80s and was cheaper to cut the hubs off and just re welded the hubs on the new axle and then use a drill press to drill the pin holes in the shaft. and it was not a soft metal either.
