how many links should there be? half links?

i have a set of super tracks that came with my bigfoot, po said they were good to go and worked fine.
well after reading up on how to put them on i went out to the garage to give it a try.

i put them on by hand with the tires inflated? they seem way too big?

there are no marks or damage on the under side of the tub from the po running them?

if they are too loose will they damage the underside of the tub?

You have too many links if you are able to install your tracks by hand with the tires inflated. Don't know how many links you should start with but maybe I can talk you through how I put on my tracks and help you out. I have super tracks on a 8x8 conquest. I take out the front and rear tire valve stems so those tires have no air at all, drive on the tracks, wrap them over the tires and am able to put in the track pin by hand up by the front tire (try this with one less link, if you can't get them together easy put in your half link). I then inflate my tires to around 4 to 4 1/2 psi to get the tension I want on the tracks. If they are too loose I get some "slapping" on the underside of the tub. I'll inflate all 4 tires up a little at a time (1/4 psi) until the slapping is minimal. This is where I like the 0-15 psi low pressure guage. I would say try to keep your tire pressures above 3 psi and under 6 psi. If you can't get the tracks tight in those pressure ranges you need to either add or take out links or half links.

I would second everything AG said, except that I don't find it "easy" to pull the ends of the track together with the air out of the front and back tires. It's still a bit of a grunt, and can be easier with a ratchet strap used to pull the track ends together.

If your tracks are too loose, your tires will just spin in them. You won't be going far like that.

Nobody can tell you what pressure to run your tires at, that's why AG gives such a wide range (3-6psi). Contributing factors include : tire type, tire wear, track wear, pin wear, ambient temp, ect.

      Hope this helps a bit

RD - Do you try to connect the links at the front tire? I find that I can pull the top portion of the track to me, while using my knee to hold up the bottom portion and squeeze enough air out of the tires to get tracks lined up and the pin started. Once its started I tap the pin through with a hammer while lining up the links. I used to join the tracks over the middle tires and had to use a strap to pull them together but lately I haven't had to using the above method.

LOL, That sounds exactly like I used to do it. Maybe I need to start hitting the gym, need to work on my "Cougar like physique".
