  • 2006 Argo Avenger

Hello I'm new to this site. I'm looking at a 2006 Argo Avenger with 56hrs and all the extras. My question is what year did Argo start putting in the new trans that I've been reading about. This one has I believe a 31hp water cooled motor, 25in. tires, camo finish, top, winch. I manufacturer Duck Hunting boats along with other fiberglass products. I'm looking to trade one of my Duck Boss 17s for the Argo. What can you tell me good or bad about this machine. I've wanted a aatv since I watched the Banana Splits ride them on TV back in the sixties. I really like the site.

    Tom.

I've got the 07 Avenger and love it! It isn't the fastest machine on the planet but will go a heck of a lot farther than the quads will! Mine has about 100 hours and has been trouble free.. Just been doing the usual maintenance on it and not trying to destroy it by beating it into the ground. It has the 31 hp water cooled motor. The only thing I added was an aftermarket inline fuel filter, just to be on the cautious side of not getting junk into the injectors..I took a spare plug and fuel filter and put them in a vacuum sealer bag so that I know I always have dry ones, just in case.. Never had an issue (knock on wood) of getting it started the few times I took it out in the cold..
Very pleased with its performance and would recommend it to anyone... Just make sure that you have done some research to make sure that this machine will work for what you want it to do.. Taking care of it, should make it last for a long time..

To best of my Knowledge the Admiral was first put in the Machines in 2010.

The 2006 is a great machine and has the older generation transmission. If it has been taken care of, 56 hour is nothing for that machine. If you really want it to take off get some AT 189 tires like the new machines use. The water speed is 3.9 mph and with the 31HP it may be a tad more Mine was a 26HP.

You need to up grade the brakes which are cable, you can get this upgrade package from any dealer.
The front tensors, if not already changed out got a modification. They went from a fine tooth to a course tooth to stop the chain from tightening up when the body went to a hard flex. The new mods work well.
I think you will like it. It will also haul a lot of people and equipment. Very stable in water as i have used a 9.9 Mariner on mine. Does well in water.
A little longer than the 6's but we always manage to get to the same place.

If it has a windshield on it never trust the clips! They are not for road travel like on a trailer. Always, Always...secure the windshield down to the handle bars and brush guard when you travel or you will find your windshield in the road. Just thought i would mention that point while i was at it.
Once you get your machine you can also do a upgrade to the HDI bearing system which is a plus. The machine you are speaking of "If in good shape" would make a fine machine with years of great service.

      Really enjoyed my 2006 Avenger

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Thanks for the replys. I forgot to mention that it has the bracket for a outboard motor. I already have a 6hp johnson tiller motor. I don't care about speed. I had enough of that on my trail bikes in the 70s. I want a 8x8 so we have room to take friends or the kids for a ride. There's a lot of good trails in Ohio at some of the state parks. The wife doesn't like the idea of getting mud on her clothes but I think I can work on that fault she has. Given what I'll have in building a boat and the cost of a trailer I'm getting the Argo for far less then it is worth. It doesn't sound like the up grades are too big of a deal and if I get stuck I know where to get some good advice. Thanks again.

          Great write up Lewis

Tom: is this one off Craigslist? If so, and it's the one I've seen, It's not worth what the seller says/or thinks it is......just food for thought and my personal opinion.

Lewis: do you still have yours for sale?

I don't know if this was the one on craigs list. The guy originally called me about the boats I build for pricing and then brought up the trade for the Argo. I met with him today at my shop to go over some mods he wants to have done to the boat as he is disabled with the use of just one arm. I'm going to modify the deck with a 18in.x18in. step area a long with a removable hand rail. The next time I go to Columbus to visit the kids I'm going to stop and look the machine over good. He emailed twenty or so pics and it looks almost new.

No, i sold it about 3 weeks ago. It was hard to watch it go up the road on someones trailer other than mine. I have checked with them and it is doing great at it's new home and they are loving it. Mission accomplished.
