  • argo reliability/ low gear

Hi, I didn't know how to title this post. This is just an opinion of my avenger 2005.
I bought it new in 2005. It has 575 hours on it. I never go fast and always in the bush and swamps and a bit in winter ( no money so unfortunatly no adair tracks, also we don't have them in Canada). I carried some big moose in it and also pulled woods for the camp. Out of those 575 hours I only ran it about 3 hours on high gear. it's always on low gear. I have never changed the belt ( and it's not sqealing, I put belt dressing once in while) and chains. The only chains I changed last year are the 2 front one when I decided to change all my blocks on the tensioner. Now they use shorter chain and no tensioner in front. I changed the 2 front bearings. I have never had any problem with the engine. Even the spark plugs are the same and it starts on a touch of the key at -25 to -30 in winter.
So all of I want to say is that it is very reliable if you grease the bearing and oil the chains. Oups I forgot I changed the brake pads this year. Also when it was brand new, about 10 hours, the kid hit a tree and bend the front axel. the dealer changed it and didn't charged me anything. I don't know how he did it but he put it on waranty even if I told him that I hit a tree. A very good dealer.
That was just my 2 cents of my avenger 2005

Sounds like you are getting alot of use from your machine. You also have a good dealer who would do something like that.

I have had my 2002 8x8 conquest for a little over 1 year and I have no complaints. They are great machines.....

brebett, try removing your drive clutch (engine) clean & visual inspect, remove the driven clutch (trans), note the spring position & move it to a lower number hole & test drive, see if you can drive normally in HIGH gear, rockdoctor has a link with video explaining the tear down of both cluches. My personal expierience after moving the driven clutch spring to a lower numerical hole was that I can drive my machine (conquest) in high gear alot more & use the lower gear for more of what low gear is meant for, hills, tight turns, etc. Just type in clutch upper right of this page & look for rockdoctor video, I'm glad I did!!

Hi, I can't find that rockdoctor video for clutch. By the way I'm not saying that I have problem with high gear. I just say that I only use low gear and never had any problem. Is it more fuel economical if I drive on high gear or it doesn't make any difference?

My 2011 has the 3.3 "standard" transmission, and I only run it in low gear (as I was told by the dealer is the case with most). In my terrain, torque and response far outweigh top speed, so I just never use high gear.

I don't know if I have the same transmission ( avenger 2005) but like I said I always run it in low gear and so far never had any problem

When you say "YES we do" you refer to a dealer in Canada for adair tracks isn't it. If so where can I find them?

Argo now offers a "high-torque" option for the Admiral -- does anyone have any info or experience with it? Thanks.

                          Yes, it works great.
Its an 8.4 ratio or Low-Torque version (Stock Admiral is a 6.3), althought it runs 30% slower in speed the added torque works great with tracks or if you are constantly up and down the hills.....
This way you can tow, clime, track without using low gear even thow Argo says you can do all of this in Hi Gear with the standard Trans, the Low-Torque version is less strain on the machine..

I live in west Quebec and my dealer got me a set of rubber tracks for my 650hd for about half the price I would have paid for Adair tracks, shipping, duty, tax, etc. The tracks are a completely diferent world than my old Argo plastic tracks. the dealer is Moto Thurso inc. 819-985-2400.
