  • Secondary Clutch Setup

Its been a while since i stripped my conquest clutches down, and now i have a question regarding rebuild. I have the secondary clutch laying on the bench, with the transmission side down, and the moving shieve up. I line the spring holes up, and it seems to me like i have to wind the upper shieve around to make the key hole on the shaft line up. How far should i have to wind the spring, and in what direction? It seems to me that the clutch should only have to wind up about a half turn. Does this seem right?

Yes...about a 1/3 of a turn counter clockwise...that will get the ramps over the plastic buttons...then twist it a little farther so that the ramps clear when you compress the helix down far enough to put the washer and snap ring back in place...you can select different springs mounting holes to get different compression ratios to change your shift performance... the tighter the spring setting is, the slower the machine will shift from lower to higher ratios and this will provide more low end muscle during normal operation

Rockdoctor has some great videos on youtube showing how to tune the clutching

    Good luck
