  • A few Winter Clips

OK, A friend had a load of wood on his trailer, so I hauled his sled out to our drop point for him. Since I was there anyway, I decided to make a run out to my cabins for a little look around. I took my Conquest with the 27hp Kawi, wearing the Supertracks. Turns out that someone must have been cold, and so helped themselves to a bunch of my firewood......... Again (Im going to have to do something about that one of these days)
Anyway, I made a firewood trip while I was out, so I could warm up the cabin.

I wasn't really traveling with my buddy, so I went in on a different trail, more for something to do than anything.

A little ride around in that old Beaver Pond, with all the holes and stumps all over the place. Picked up enough wood for a couple days:

This is a little suprise, hope you like it

Was that 20 mph or kph on the gps. Do you get more speed with tracks on out of the bigger motor or is it about the same as the 20 hp.

Kph, low geared trans and clutched down. Top speed is slightly higher with the 27hp. Both engines are governed to the same top RPM, but with the extra hp it's easier to get to, and maintain top speed.

                      RD,

For the life of me, I don't know why people steal from Northern Cabins?????? DOn't they realize that it could cost someone their life in an emergency???

I have cabin on Great Slave Lake and for the most part it is left alone, I leave it unlocked and sometimes people come in. I leave a note to help themselves to coffee and a fire if they like, but please clean up. So far so good. Some of my friends' cabins however, have been ransacked, they stole his wood stove, his bed matresses, and even his Bison mount. I mean, who steals a bison head that they didn't get??? Anyway, what I would do is drill a couple of holes in one piece of fairly soft wood, and stuff about 10 D size batteries in there. then plug it back up so it looks natural. PUt it on top of your pile, and if they take it, it should give them a shock if they are all sitting around the fire!

Of course I am kidding, I would never condone paying back thieves in this manner........ heh heh

I hear ya, I know. Some people are just scum. This is just the reason why I always carry so much stuff with me. Most of the time I need things just because of what someone else has done. Never, ever rely on something that might not be there when you get where your going.
I have NO problem with someone taking or using something if they need it. I have been in the unfortunate situation where I had to steal someone's gas one time on the rive. Was heading home, stopped at my gas stash, only to find that someone needed it more than I did. The only option was for me to raid another persons stash. BUT, I gave up a day of OT work, and brought their 5gal of gas back the next day. With lost work, and costs to me, that 5gal of fuel cost me well over $1,000. I left as early the next morning as light would allow and arrived at the guys stash about 5 min after he did. He was pissed, and wondering if he would make it home. He calmed down instantly when I explained what happened and handed him his gas. I think I impressed him (he couldn't help but know what it cost me to do that). Anyway it turns out that he is a hell of a guy, and we've been great friend ever since.

Love your idea, although I would never do such a thing

                        RD

Um, that was D batteries you mentioned right. Heh heh.

All the camps here look like Fort Knox now, the last time I left a stash was 10-15 years ago on an island in the summer (no sleds) & was only left a week in a remote area.....& I still worried about it. The nice thing about that trip was seeing a moose cow with her calf,a few hundred yard from the cache
