  • Argo inner bearing

Does anyone know an easy way to get the inner bearing off the axle I tried everything lube heat I gave up hit it with a hammer broke the outer part then had to cut the inner part with a cut off wheel to get it off any suggestions

The best way I've found to remove any older bearing, inner or outer, is to cut it with an air powered cut off-wheel. Just make one cut through the race and the bearing will fall right off.

On the inner bearing, I unbolt the flanges and soak it in PBlaster. I let it get in and then I use my Harbor Freight Gear/Bearing puller and winch it off. Not too hard, just takes some time.

Try using a puller like this one. 14 Piece Gear Puller Set Its the one I have. I pulled off an inner bearing yesterday with it and the bearing was not damaged. I used the 2 split pieces and put them together on the underside of the bearing and it cupped the bearing to even out the stress all around the bearing and not in 2 or 3 pinch points.

Best thing to do is, is leave the inner bearing bolted in the flanges and bolt a slide hammer to the hub ... problem solved

I just made a pusher to push the axle out of the bearing with a 15inch 3\4 pipe and a 3inch 5\8 bolt and nut. I slide the pipe over the 3\8 bolt head on the other side and put the 3\8 bolt back in on the side you are taken apart so not to mess up the threads in the axle. Then I held the 5\8 bolt with a wrench and loosen the nut pushing the axle out of the bearing. You mite have too heat the bearing a little to get it to pop.You wont have to cut the bearing on the axle.

I've had the same issue on inner and outer bearings. Bearings have a lifespan and its better to replace than reuse to prevent a major failure in the field. Its alot of trouble to change them out but thats less of a problem than finding your way out of a swamp with an axle hanging out of the body at an awkward angle.
