  • Just Got a 2007 Frontier Argo 6x6

Found and just bought my first Argo 6x6, and have spent a few minutes (hours?) reading about the good and the bad and ugly of this beast . I think I got a good deal ,came with an Argo trailer , home built ROPS that looks like it was designed to carry a canoe or small boat, Brush guard , a new Wren 3000LB winch , offset motor mount and rear winch /hitch mount and a 7.5 foot snow plow and only 73 hours on the clock ...

First off Heat ... very hot running machine this one did not get a factory blower fan installed so my first solution will be a 145 CFM 3" tunnel bilge fan cool air intake from the engine duct but on the side closest to the access panel/ firewall . Ducted in and blowing on the break disks, transmission and around the back of the 23 HP B&S engine along with wiring to the factory spec/operation via the start/run switch....I hope there is enough cool air flow to get things back down to a reasonable working temp. I have looked at the factory solution and may end up having to get the break disk cooling duct/vent part number 127-134 from Mother Argo but this may not help with total cooling needs so next step will be to look at solving the twin problem of air to the B&S engine and the lack of clean out access to the current duck work of the Frontier. My solution will be to retro-fit the Big Foot duct work to the engine again parts via from Mother Argo and adapting the current hood to fit this would give access for clean out and still give good / better cool air flow. If I can not get the big foot duct work or it is not a good fit , I am also looking at modifying the hood with air vents with increase air flow as my goal.

I am also going to install a bilge pump via the factory wiring for power and install my own off/ on switch at this point it looks like making a simple mount to have it sit in the front pocket down by the fame and under the engine(drivers side)and plumbed out to the drive side just in front of where the windshield would mount. It will be mounted up and out of the way of any gears and or chains and any maintenance points.

I Have posted pictures in the members gallery Argo 6 and 8 Wheelers - under BW3, and titled "New to me 2007 Argo Frontier"

    Update ,
I have up loaded pictures of my install in my members galley and tried to also make an album but missed the maker a bit not sure how to move them or if I need ADMIN help to do it ... Out come is very good , machine now runs much cooler and I am not getting the hot oil burn off ... I will be adding a blower to the hood next and a bilge pump but after I come back from my cool ride ....

Thanks All ...If you think or know that I have missed anything please feel free to let me know in the mean time I have a lot of very enjoyable work and fun ahead ..

Hi Bill, congratulations on your Argo. It sounds like you just have a couple of things to add and you should be ready to ride. If the stock plastic brake cooling duct will work, that would definitely save you a good deal of time fabricating something from scratch. Have fun with your Frontier.

        Argo Frontier Update

[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]A bit of update due to an unforeseen issue I had to ask a friend to make the purchase, he was looking to buy a new machine and has a 2000 Argo Bigfoot. So I hope at a later date I can be able to purchase the machine but for now I can use it and we are enjoying seeing the differences between the two machines and the disappointments also. First off the heat issue solved ? maybe ....We added a tunnel bilge fan to the engine intake see my gallery photos for details , and a powered intake hood scoop which can be switched on /off where as the first tunnel fan is on if the key is on . this gives an estimated 200 CFM of air flow total with both fans going ... How close is this to stock factory equipment spec? Over all we are happy , I will hopefully own an Argo 6x6 at some point and my friend has the chance to see what a newer machine is like to some extent
