  • Clutch/grinding noises while shifting on older 8x8 argo

When I pull both brake/steering levers to myself and try to shift into reverse or L/H I hear a terrible grinding. Sometimes its smooth, but other times its quite loud. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong or need to be mindful of? thanks

Make sure the motor has revved down before you shift. You may want to blip the throttle and shift when the RPM drops. If you constantly have to do that then you may need to adjust the idle RPM.

Sounds like what Mike suggested. Also it might help to pull the choke to get the rpms down enough as a temporary fix to get by. Once its in gear turn the choke off. You might not be able to choke it completely either, just enough to get it slowed downs some.

Pretty common in Argos with the 18hp Briggs. It can be hard to tune the carb right so it just purrs at idle but that's the only way aside from shutting down for every shift.
