AZZ I've already did the stripped head trick in one of the sprokets, with the help of the kid next door that lives to help me work on the 6x6. Then I went the extra mile...........beat in a star bit and broke that off in there......game over! Had to cut on either side of the set screw with a cut off wheel on a dremmel. Came right off after that but may have cost me a spoket.

No dout Tucker I do enjoy working on it and can't wait to take her for a spin, have never drove one before!
This site is great and everyone is very helpfull, in the short time I've been a member I've learned alot about 6x6's.
Bazoo is right tho, once she's done I'll be looking for another one to bring back to life!

Just think of it a your retirement investment. And all the hours you put into it now. Will pay off. That how I think of the tucker snow cat I have. The hundreds of hours , and thousand of $ Now It sits in my yard and is nicely retired. All apart.
I down sized and up graded to a argo conquest. And sure do not regret the move. Now I can spent my time driving it instead of fixing it. Once you get this project done, they are a lot of fun and well worth the time you have put into it. The wife likes to take the argo out, But would not take the tucker snow cat out at all. I'll tell ya one thing every nut, bolt or set screw I manage to get out makes me feel a little better!
This thing was not well maintained at all.
How bout parts axles, bearings, sprokets...........know of any places to purchase these right?
I haven't looked much too busiy tearing her apart, trying to salvage as much as possible but every once in awhile it goes bad!
Tonight got off 12 bolts and 5 set screws....started at 6 came in after 9 might not sound like much but it was a fight everyturn of the wrench, she's a little rusty ok ALOT!

I would use heat and be carefull not to strip the head out

If you are using a socket drive allen, get it set into the set screw and smack it with a hammer a few times to shock the rust,that sometimes works

And try to tighten the set screw First and then undo it?

I have herd about heating the sprockets up and melting wax on the set screws, but I have never tried it. Usually I heat the the sprockets up really good and spray pb blaster or whatever on them and wait for them to cool a little and they usually brake loose. Can't get it through the door!
I'm haveing a heck of a time getting the set screws out of the sprokets anyone have any ideas?
Been trying PB Blaster out the ying yang, how bout heat............or will the set screw heat up before the sproket and just swell up and be tighter?

Oh theres been plenty of those drank just looking at it!
I've only managed to get 2 axles out so far and one did not survive the extraction!
Chains came off her last night........should have done that before messing with the axles.....live & learn I guess
you guys are right it is alot of fun, I lose track of time and next thing you know its midnight and the wifes asking if I'm spending the night out there.
I dream about the damn thing.............is that odd?????????

cool project looks like more than a one beer job I was just reading the other day on here about someone who used electrolysis to remove the rust from the frame it sounded pretty good can probably find the post using search.

Anyone that knows how much fun these things are would tell you its worth the time and investment it takes to get it back on the trails.
I bet your buddies will be jealous when its up and running.
Half the fun is in the resto and when its done you will want to do another one.....like many of the members here you cant stop with just one.
