  • first time buyer questions??

Hey all , I thought for my first post I would ask some silly questions about used argo's.
I am currently looking for and at some used units , I think the 8 wheeler is a must for us as we need the extra capacity for fishing and hunting.
Now what are some of the things we should be looking for that are good/bad?
Like differences in years , motors , drive trains etc.

    I am currently looking at a 1992 Argo Magnum 8x8 18HP Twin 4-Stroke
    Double Chain
    Hydraulic Steering
    Over Head Rack
    Floats
but the hour meter looks like it reads 3083 hrs , is that a lot for this machine?

    The asking price is $3000

    Thanks for any input

There is a guide on the home page that you should read before you buy...Has some good info in it...Here is the link....Price seems high for the hour IMO...

With that many hours make sure that the tub isnt wore through. And splined shafts are preferable to pinned shafts. The argo will be ok, if the guy has kept up on maitnece. Make sure ALL the bearings are solid, and the chain isnt streached. If it is he needs to serously come down in price! For new bearings (and new axels if the bearing were bad enough) and new chains on say half the rig, it could tally up to 1500 dollars in parts really fast!

Read through the guides and some good points on what to look for in a machine.
I guess there is no way to tell if the hr meter was ever disconected other than low hrs and excessive wear hehe.
It may take awhile but one day I will find a good one or an older one for the right price.

If the machine is in good condition, that is an OK price. I would be checking everything though.
That engine should still have a couple thousand hours in it, as long as it was serviced properly and not abused to hard.

I paid 5500 for a 2000 year Conquest with 30hours on it and an extra set of 8 tires. There is a nice 8x8 for sale on Houston craigslist.

Iam on side with Rock Doc,its a OK price for the year and model, forum members have to be aware this is Canada and our pricing for motorsports equipment is high in direct comparision with the U.S side new and used, there are deals and they dont last long here,if you are willing to travel and deal with customs the best deals on AATV,s come from the states no question asked.NCT
