Getting high centered in the HDI

After spending the last couple months on this HDI, and taking it in the most nasty places I have, I finally got this thing totally stuck for the first time. A friend of mine, Steve, and his 10 year old son, Sam, stopped by to pre season scout for Sams first ever turkey hunt. All thoughts of turkeys were extinguished, however, as Sam spyed the argo's in the shed.I handed Sam the keys to the vanguard, and Steve and I jumped in the HDI. After repeated use, and heavy rainfall, the swamptrail has now become a really scary place, and we made it to the second hole,before Sam had the old girl stuck.Being his first ever argo experience, it's hard to explain the meaning of "highcenter" untill it happens.Anyway, backing up to winch him out I also highcentered. Because there were no big trees to hook on to, I wrapped the synthetic cable around an alder bush, and watched in mild horror as the cable stretched to about the diameter of piano wire. The shrub bent double, and all I could think of was this alder tearing out of the ground, and getting launched at an insane velocity right in our faces. Thank goodness the argo popped out before that happened.Anyway, to make a long story short,it amazed me how fast this kid got the hang of it and we ended up having a great time.

Another future 6x6 worlder......Nice to introduce new people to the sport.....Some people get the hang of it real easy while others take time....My 12 year old has no interest in driving the argo while the 10 year would take it himself and go....

This kid, 30' out of the shed,drops the hammer,and before I could "pry his hand off the throttle" we were going as fast as it would go. I saw more of the bottom of the argo as he flew up and over the bogs, than I did the top.After we got back, I asked steve about the speed thing,and come to find out, a relation on his moms side races atv's.......go figure.

Uhhhhhh..... Hi Tim?...... What are you doing here?????? Don't worry, we only had it on it's side once. Hey, I thought you put new synthetic bearings in this thing, where are they??? And I thought the holes around the axles were supossed to be round, not egg shaped.? And I think a stone or something got stuck in the tranny cause it grinds and smokes a little.Anyway I thought I would fix it all so I changed the oil, but it looks new, so as soon as I filter all the metal chunks out, I'm going to put it back in, ok? Don't worry, my dad is a TV repairman, and has this AWESOME set of tools..... Seriously, as soon as I dye my hair back to brown from snow white, I better pull the tires.

I taught my 7 year old daughter to drive mine in about 30 mins. She always seems to get over looked somehow so you should have seen her face when she was driving it around and her siblings did not know how to drive it or her mother. Yesterday I had her teach the rest of them how to drive it also. My son is 5 years old and I let him drive it with someone else along. The wife and I make a mixed drink and get in the back and the kids drive us around the trails

I never thought about that aspect of the synthetic cables. If they stretch like a snatch strap does there is a ton of stored energy there if it were to snap or what it is attached to would let go suddenly. I told you if you kept auguring away at those trails they would get even nastier. Sounds fun.

throw a shirt, towl, wet sock, etc over the middle of the cable when you use a winch. If the cable does snap it will not come back at you. 98% of the time a cable will break at the end.

thats awesome, and probably something she will never forget...sure she was really proud of herself and knew that you were proud of her too :-) way to go dad!

on a more serious note...You should maybe consider having a little group ride up at your place sometime...we had a blast this last weekend making new friends and it would be really cool to have a place like yours to ride sometime...you might get a pretty good turn out and could be a lot of fun...better get the tow ropes and winches ready though...lol :-)

That would be great...you are close enough to Chris up at Beaver Dam ARGO that he might even take the time off and come up to play for the day...He is a super great guy and really fun to ride with (not to mention, super knowledgable when it come to these machines)...he could probably pull a few of his closer customers together also and you could have one of the best group turnouts in the area! if you do get somthing put together, please count me in...i'd luv to see your back yard and also your log cabin building and taxidermy skills :-)
