ok i am new to the aatv's and i want to buy one but i have a bunch of questions . i want to get a argo 6x6 Frontier 650 or 480 but don't know which one to get. does the 480 have enough power to turn the wheels in deep mud with 2 people in it? is there a big power difference between the two? is it worth the extra money to get the 650 over the 480? how are they in the mud compared to a atv? are they limted slip or posi traction? what are bearing extensions? what is the big difference between the two? i just want one with enough power not one that is going to be starved for power. thanks for your help

The 480 is 14 hp, the 650 is 23 hp. You left out the 580 18 hp. Bearing extension housings move the outer axle bearing outward for more support, necessary for tracks. Difference between quads.. you only sink so far and then you float. To Invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. (Thomas Edison)

You may wan to look into the 580 Roger mentioned
When I was looking into a newer AATV the salesmen were offering the 580 for almost the same price as the 480 new, however I am not sure if he was fluffing up the cost of the 480 or just had more stock on the 580. I went and got a Vanguard to hold me over while I performing surgery to my old 8x8.I would get the 580 and I think it comes with axle extensions so you can use tracks. If you use tracks in the mud, muskeg or even snow you will beat any quad. If a quad does keep up with you just cross a deep body of water that will teach them a lesson.
As far as the Posi differential goes you have the ability to apply brakes independently right and left so if the side with out traction spins apply that side’s brake by steering.Last edited by Robio_8x8; 02-18-2008, 11:11 AM.Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

I,d say as soon as the water is about 3/4 to the top of your tires , you should be floating . This is what tricks a lot of ATV riders that try to follow an amphib through the water ,,thinking the water is only 3/4 of the way , to the top of your wheels . They soon find their ATV sinking over their gas tank .

I might be able to help with the How Much question...
We bought our '07 Frontier (23hp was only option in 2007) in August for around $12k with the $500 free accessories and free winch incentive. We purchased from Points West Argo in Yuba City, CA (near Sacramento). My wife and I (and extended family...) LOVE the Frontier.
The only thing "hind-sight" would have been an '08 8x8 Frontier...more capacity.
But, even as a 6x6, the Frontier is agile, and fun as heck.
Take a look at my gallery... you can see some of the fun stuff we've done
