      You're a good sport Mike.
Don't mind me, I get a little "loopy" at work after too many days on shift.
2 more days and I get to go hooooome............

Got the radiator completely out and easily got the alt in. Now to figure out how to get the rad and fan shroud back in. Pain the the backside no doubt.. Yeah RD pull the rad if you like to torment yourself or just yank the motor out.

          Plott..

How does the wiring harness kit plug to the voltage regulator? I am confused.. I unhooked the wire from the voltage regulator to install kit but the new harness plug will only fit to the existing harness, bypassing the regulator mounted on the back side of the drivers dash. Is this right?

yes that is right, bypass the voltage regulator.plug the harness in then there are 2 wires for the idiot light.pop the idiot light out and remove the existing wires then plug the new ones in.the rad and shroud will drop in with a bit of wiggling from the front.here is the directions/instructions under alternator kit Argo Accessory Installation Manuals

              DONE!!!!!!!!

The rad dropped right in and was quickly bolted in. Amazed that it was such a fight to get the rad out, only to drop it in pop in the rubber grommets and bolted it down. Took only 10 min to finish it up. Now I just have to refill the rad and take it for a test spin in the vacant lot next door. Need to get a coffee filter to strain the rad fluid before I put it back in.. some bugs where attracted to its tasty smell.

Oh and thanks to Plott and Argojim for the help.

Refilled the rad a bit ago. Put battery back in after I lubed the chains. Fired it up, no red idiot light on at engine idle. Just gently add a bit of throttle and the volt meter jumps to 14v.

Too soon to tell. I will know more when I go riding this weekend.

So why do the conquests have a 40 amp alternator. Why can't a 100 amp be used?

The kit uses a mini denso alternator. Majority of mini denso alternators are used in racing applications, where weight is a factor. Most are in the 35 to 40 amp range, I have seen a few listed on ebay at 60 and 75 amps. A regular full size alternator will not fit in the limited room.

I bought and installed my alternator in my conquest in about 3 1/2 hrs, you guys had me worried it was going to be a bull to do this, mine went so smooth I thought I forgot something, only one bolt on bottom bracket gave me trouble getting it to line up, no loss of power seems to be working great

                              Hi
                              40 amps at 14volts dc = 560 watts
                              1hp = approx. 750 watts
I would advise people to have only a set of flood lights on at idle [200 watts 16 amps] With all other loads the engine needs to be at least at 1500-1800rpm

Eg 60 amp current draw on a 80 amp altenator does drop the idle speed a little but did not effect any thing else on my vehicle
                              tomo

So is the kit really worth $500 bucks? Nobody has done a DIY job? I'm really not likeing not having a pull start option since I'm often alone and off the beat path.
