I just picked up a used Connquest this morning, I've been going through it, lube and checking things out. I took it throught the swamp out back. I can feel the chain tentioner flexing under my right foot, is this normal? The chain is tight, looks well lubed.

Yes this is a normal thing....I feel it in my conquest as well....Make sure all chains are adjusted properly and that your idler chains are tighten according to the manual. Keep an eye on your sprockets for wear and do regular maintenence....and most important is to have fun with your machine....Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

thanks for the response. I'll check the manual and all the chains, I bought it from a 78 year old guy, he bought it new, he swears it's only 235 hour on it. I was just out in th swamp, what a machine. But the breaks acted a little funny. The get excessive play in the lever, once they cool down they return to nomal. The pads look good. what causes this?

Your problem is likey caused by either brake fade or bad fluid. Brake fade is caused by excessive heat buildup in the brake system. Make sure that you aren't dragging the brakes. Also, make sure that your brake fan is working and the ducting is in place.
As a piece of mind thing, I would change the brake fluid, and check the adjustment on the brake plungers. I think you are only supposed to use dot 5 fluid, but maybe double check that.
